In this week's video I record a trippy Cumbia track using Medusa by Polyend & Dreadbox. It's a unique hybrid synth that combines a powerful sound engine with a deep and flexible pad matrix. And it's named like my favourite squishy animal :)

How do you prefer to learn a new synth? Endless noodling, making a song or RTFM?

It took me a long time to realize that only a few of us actually read the manual lol

i love reading the manuala, especially the for the elektron machines. making a complete track with 1 synth, no effects. cuckoo's videos are very helpful, too!

Your back!! Um, all I pretty much do is noodling, but tracks happen, here and there. I just like the ooh, what’s that do, what will happen when I touch that or well, get lost in sound design really.

You gotta switch out the knobs for the colored knobs, it makes it sound better 😉

I wanted to keep the slick all-black look for now, but I know I will switch to rainbow mode eventually.

There’s a set of colored knobs included with Medusa. Chromacaps might work too.

Holaaa First of all, already loving your channel, you had me with the cumbia experiment here hahaha! I wanted to ask you something. Saw that you have Medusa as well as Digitakt + Digitone. Recently I've been wondering for a synth to tighten both of them together, mono proferably, and was into the typhon from dreadbox but deliver times are now waaay too long. So wanted to ask you of the integretion from the Medusa pad with the digitone, specically. 🧐 And if you have any feedback or comment on this, I'll be amazing :)

Thanks for reaching out. I do not run a DAWless setup, but control all my synths from either Live or MASCHINE+. Therefore integration of Medusa, the two Digi's and everything else is pretty easy and straight forward. Can't say much about Typhon, but as far as I heard it's pretty great. If you want an affordable analog mono synth to go along with Digitakt, Digitone and Medusa, you could also take a look at Novation Bass Station 2 and Arturia MiniBrute2. Both sound fantastic and bring a lot to the table.

Hey Dacci , wie gehts !? 1 question, Medusa VS. Novation Peak , witch one do you recommend ? from Analog/digital hybrid view I mean, not talking about the pad. or should I consider both ?! happy new year and tnx in advance

It really depends on your individual needs and requirements. Peak is way more versatile and covers almost everything most people want from a synthesizer. It's a true all-rounder and if I could get only one synth, I would probably go with Peak. Medusa on the other hand is rather specialized. It does not cover a wide range of "bread and butter" sounds, but can do some pretty freaky stuff that would be hard to achieve with Peak. So if you already have a lot of basic synths and need something a bit more left-field (and have time to learn how to use it), Medusa can be a great addition too. In any case, try before you buy!

@@XanderEwald thanks for such a great explanation. Considering that I'm still a beginner, I go with Peak and put Medusa in my whish list for now.
