The other day I was printing some models of ships from elite dangerous and got 2 failed ships. Deffinitelly gonna try something like this. The infill structure inside and leftover supports work great as details

They really do! I noticed that the infill looked a lot like the structure and panelling when I started peeling it back. A very happy accident! Would love to see your build when you're done.

Am making a shuttle craft diorama now but struggling to do it right I think it a type 8 I base it on the type Scottie from relics takes ad he leaves enterprise D. This is am using pallet wood so walls are fairly thick but some lollystick made up cockpit console with lcars console printout ad appropriate but kind my own design.

The beautiful thing is - there's no "right" way to do it! I recommend finding some modelling groups (there are some great Trek starship modeler groups on FB) to get inspired, learn, and get input and advice. It sounds like you're really getting creative with your materials! Have fun with it!

Cutting an measuring to your own sizes is good but then paint the parts before gluing then drilling and screwing these together and gives nice sharp clean paintwork rather than trying to cut wood n with an artist set of brushes some use for airfix models etc silicon and ground help fill in holes to tidy bits up

Great upload, if I were into model making myself and diorama's I'd love to make an alien desert planet one like off Starship Troopers with a crashed alien craft somewhere on it. Thanks

What was your process for painting the 3d print? Can someone just paint acrylic on it or is there anything we have to do with 3d print to before painting?

Hey! You definitely can just paint acrylic on a raw PLA 3D printed object, but your results will be better if you prime it first.

I put my star wars ATAT in the fish tank, like it had fallen over. Fish had babies in the thing. Removed metal screws and gutted the electrics
