@@Susyobama Great questions. If it's sealed it'll be as skin-safe as whatever you use to seal it. It is ABSOLUTELY not safe for the lungs. Mask while using any kind of metallic powder, for sure. I can't remember where I saw it but graphite powder under a microscope is a very jagged little particle, not good for the body at all. So yeah, gloves, masks, and eye protection for sure! I started using graphite to finish recently for my lightsaber builds, and I find the white holds on the gloss black the best. I find that it keeps rubbing off easily when I use white paint, but I suppose it depends on the type of paint too! Overall very pleased with the finishes I get

Without doing more research I'm afraid I really couldn't say. My instinct is to say that the i3 might not have Xe even if you're running dual-channel RAM? But that's a guess based on a hazy memory. If you find out otherwise let us know!

It is actually a marketing gimmick. Dual channel memory would provide required memory bandwidth for the graphics to work in optimal state. Intel marketed this level of graphics performance product as Iris Xe. And the driver would just display it accordingly.

Quality video, but my heart breaks that you bought a Framework, allowing right to repair and theoretically anyone to make stuff that can slot into this laptop....and then you put Windows 11 on it.
@LoveMakeShareTV
@LoveMakeShareTV Жыл бұрын
Thanks, and sorry to break your heart, lol. Listen, I've got three kids, decades of Windows workflows, and more questions than expertise when it comes to Linux. My project time has been at a real premium since this video came out, so my plan to dual-boot this thing and start moving any FOSS apps to Linux hasn't gotten off the ground. Bit of a bummer, tbh, but it works great as a Windows machine, so I'm not mad at it.

@LoveMakeShareTV
@LoveMakeShareTV Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thank you! Unfortunately there's nothing really to show for it. We did start installing the fibre optics in a sort of trash-bash build, but we ended up breaking our questionable solder and moved on to other projects before we came back to it. It was working a treat until we busted it, lol. But you'd need to experiment to see if the scale works for your specific model. Fortunately it's so cheap to throw together that you can try it out without making a big investment!

Yes, I have 2 HP x360s in successive models. I believe this features saves the hinges from breaking. Both have worn out keyboards, and it they were a FW, a new keyboard and 5 minutes would fix that. 😞 The FW does lay flat apparently, and that should be enough to save the hinges., though they are also replaceable.

I've had one of these for about a year. It's not perfect, and honestly I shouldn't have paid that much if it wasn't perfect, but I desperately wish for this concept to survive. Call it a repair tax instead of an Apple tax. (Specifically the issue with Linux and battery life in sleep mode. Even with s2deep it'll kill itself in two days of sleep.)
@ContantContact
@ContantContact Жыл бұрын
I just saw a video about setting up sleep, then auto hibernate after 2 hours. That solves your issue. And mine as well when I get the FW delivered. It is for Ubuntu, and I am using Mint, which is derived from Ubuntu, so it should work on either. Ubuntu 21.10 on the Framework Laptop kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJrFoqpreJiaoZo

I used my last laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad) about as long as you used your Surface Pro 3 & also left on practically all the time. Now I have the 12th Gen Framework & lovin' it! I really respect that they quite willingly replace parts that are defective out of the box. I watched another reviewer who had a minor refresh defect at the bottom of their screen, replaced with no hassle. They definitely stand behind their product.

Great video. I'm also using a convertible, but really like Framework's mission. Did you draw with the Surface? If so, have you found a replacement solution when on the go? Maybe an iPad or a graphics display (Wacom, Huion, etc)?
@LoveMakeShareTV
@LoveMakeShareTV Жыл бұрын
Hey, this is a great question that I never answered! Yes, I did draw on the Surface, and no, I have not found a replacement solution, honestly. My projects have been less about art and more about writing and design since I switched anyway, so I've spent much more time in Fusion, Inkscape, and GIMP than, say, Krita or Sketchbook. My favourite on-the-go drawing tool in the past has genuinely been a Note, but I had to switch phones. I think my next phone will need to be a Galaxy Ultra, with the S Pen.

The simple fact of the laptop making you create a local account instead of phoning home to MS is per se a reason to buy this machine! Kudos to Framework 👍🏼
@LoveMakeShareTV
@LoveMakeShareTV Жыл бұрын
This is an interesting take on it, because I actually would have preferred at least having the option! The problem is that there's no compatible driver for WiFi out of the box, so I had to create a local account just to install it. Yes, privacy should be the first principle, but I could have saved some time just signing into my Microsoft account during setup.
@BriefNerdOriginal

@@LoveMakeShareTV I understand. I believe that you're right and Framework should take into account the user experience for the ones that want their product and not the Linux "the driver doesn't work" experience.

I think putting QR codes on everything is a good idea, remember this is also intended for people who have never opened up a computer before. That way someone who doesn't even know what an SSD/m.2 NVME is, is less likely to try to put it into the WiFi slot.
