How to make your own lures from the hook up

Every YT J/A that wants to show you how to make jigs has one major thing in common............and you're right there with them.. THEY DO NOT HEAT THE MOLD HOT ENOUGH!!!!!!! I can see the pot is turned up to between 9-10 but you're not getting the mold hot enough.. That's why you get those bad pours........ You do not have to use a heat gun to preheat the wire and hooks.The mold transfers enough to them if you have the mold hot enough..... Heat the mold to where you can't even touch it for a fraction of a second..( @ 6:40 the mold is def not hot enough or you couldn't hold your finger on there anywhere that long).Pour them without any of the hardware numerous times.I pour AT LEAST 6-8 times and between each I let it sit on the pot for 20-30 seconds to get the heat to build up in the mold.Any time I need to get up to do something,get a drink,nature call,etc. I will pour another and let it sit on the pot till I get back.I'll then pour about 4 without hardware with letting it sit on the pot 20-30 sec in between to make sure the mold is back up to temp. Been pouring bullets,jigs,etc. a number of years,between my stepfather and I we have nearly 70 yrs in it.

Thanks for the input. You're right, I'm sure. I don't have as much experience as you do. I had to figure things out myself, because there were not any good videos out there when I was learning.

That heat gun will melt the lead off of the hook and wire, might be less messy than submerging it in the lead. I found this out accidentally when I was heating up some jigheads to apply the powder paint.

This is a great video! What kind of lead are you using? Are you buying pure ingots or recycling tire weights etc?

What wire gauge do you recommend? The ones I’ve found were sturdy but I’m afraid they’ll bend too easily when fish strike it
