This might sound strange but the fastest best saw I ever built was a shindiawa saw 20 years ago. It is still running today and seems like it can't be killed. It wasn't the most torque but had the highest rpm and cut faster than anything in its size. Thanks for the videos you seem to be doing what you love and it's cool seeing other guys out there doing what we want

What i personally love about your channel is that you are just a guy next door, who loves tinkering away on Chainsaws (and other stuff) for the pure pleasure of learning and getting satisfaction when it works. Humble is right, its not life and death however it is a passion that we all need to it. Keep on entertaining us with your passion, as it gives us satisfaction in knowing we can accomplish things in our life that also means something to ourselves. Cheers....

Thanks for the advice at the end for small channels on this space like mine. Really trying to stay humble and keep it fun, and i have to say its the guys commenting and the regular subscribers helping out that really make me want to keep making videos, ive been blown away with the positivity and attitude of the majority, which makes it easy to ignore the minority. Thanka for all you do TM!

When I got into the chainsaw hobby it was because I didn’t have the room I once had for cars and bikes. Then I enjoyed it once I realized the majority of the people seemed to be more positive towards each other than in the automotive world. It seems like as the hobby has grown it’s maybe taken on some more of the drama that you find in other circles. I enjoy and appreciate not finding that on this channel. I also appreciate the clean language vs the other channels that I just had to turn off. I’m a swearing truck driver but still don’t like listening to foul language on what I watch. Thanks for keeping it clean, friendly and fun.

Hey Tinman, I found you via Buckn and you have inspired me to try port my own stuff and have fun. I’m an automotive transmission tech by trade and watching you work on the piston made me think about surface area. You opened up the windows for more airflow but you also increased the surface area of the intake stroke making it draw a little bit more air by volume. I think lol still trying to wrap my head around this stuff. Thank you sir for all you do.

Think of the bottom end as a bottle of water. I made the lower transfers larger which makes the bottle larger. I added intake timing which allows the bottle to be filled longer on each stroke. It's like turning on the tap longer to fill a larger bottle of water.

Agree with you people have gotten way to competitive and at times down right nasty with each other here on youtube lately, there is no one right way instead there is many way's to "skin a cat" sad it's turned that way. Most time's it's over who's saw can cut a block of wood .005 tenth's of a second faster then someone else's port work or any other simple task one's doing here on the tube, somehow it get's ugly I don't understand it. I have watched and enjoyed youtube for many year's and lately participate in it directly myself making content and yes it's the fun factor that keep's bringing me back also, it's very hard to explain. Most people don't understand why a person would open ourselves up to the scrutiny that comes with it, so glad to hear someone like yourself who understands and knows the pitfalls along with the good it can bring as well. Anyways keep doing what you do and take care Tinman.

I've had good luck with smoothing the inside ridge to the outer edge of the piston, making nice ramps out to the windows. I've taken around 10 grams out of a piston with no vibration difference, at least anything noticeable. Definitely have noticed more torque and more "crack" on the throttle. Take it easy, buddy!

Nice video. I saw a comment asking if you are running one or two rings and you said probably one. Didn't know you could run one run on a two ring piston. Top or bottom on the ring? It is very enjoyable to watch your channel. I have tinkered with saws for a long time but not with the confidence that your content has provided. I don't even own a stihl (yet) and I still watch your videos on them. The information is almost always transferable to other brands. One day we will bump into each other and share some stories I'm sure. Until then appreciate all your efforts and knowledge. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

Run the top ring because your fuel mix SHOULD help take up any slack between the piston and cylinder and besides that you’ve “effectively” got blow by “engineered” into the running saw vs a 4stroke and it happening as a matter of wear or some negative consequence. That single ring will help the saw run “slightly” cooler due to reduced friction and the 2nd ring doesn’t really increase compression much on an engine that runs 10k rpm +. On a 4stroke it’s different. Most of the low rpm diesels have even gotten a 3 ring setup, maybe some even have a 4 (I don’t know that for a fact). So…RPM vs rings and 2stroke vs 4stroke. I just don’t think that the EPA has it figured out yet. 😮😊

Tinman, what’s the longevity factor of the motor when you factor in 1 vs 2 rings? I mean, which motor LASTS longer? I hope I made that question easy to understand. I think that 1ring is actually going to last longer than 2 because of the friction and heat difference, but I’m just theorizing. I also believe that the different manufacturers put 2 in as a well intended emission response but it actually makes it worse. Your thoughts please.
@tinmanssaws
@tinmanssaws 10 ай бұрын
It should last longer. Less heat and more importantly there's oil on both side of the ring. That's my thoughts.

Hi Tinman! Greetings from MN. I did some work to an aftermarket cyl and piston just like in your video here. Same saw. I have .023 squish and 140 psi compression. The saw will idle and run but the acceleration is lacking. I tuned the carb like I usually do and she’s on the ragged edge of not wanting to idle. I’m using a good carb with no limit caps. New crank seals too. I am using a base gasket. Any ideas?? Thanks

I have noticed the forems(not naming names-but more than one of them) seem to have a more clique-ish atmosphere with "ramrods" and "yes men", more negativity, than the KZbinrs..in fact, I have seen them bash KZbinrs..seems to be a more toxic environment overall...Perhaps it is because it is easier to relate to people talking to them on a video, and perhaps easier to hide behind a keyboard and be rude without the interaction of actually seeing them and hearing their voice...
