Very nice build. I use that exact same finishing process too. Excellent choice

I love making cabinets like these. There is so much detail packed into such a little piece that you really have to pay attention. It also gives you some freedom to try some thing at the same time. This piece is fantastic!

Hi Gary, I loved the treatment you gave to the panel in the door. It really did "pop" out that grain! Brilliant. And now I have a bad case of "Tool-Drool-Envy" - LOL! OMG, those tools! Great videography as always. 💯 👍

could you link to the white marker you use on dark woods. I've been using white colored pencil from the art supply store, which often break and don't hold a point very long. Oh, and the cabinet is gorgeous. Thanks

thanks glad you like it 😀 It’s a pica pencil, here is a link www.amazon.co.uk/Pica-Pencil-Longlife-Automatic-Lasting/dp/B002X7Y90U?th=1 You have to buy the white refills separately but it works a treat 👍

Very nice box - and very nice work. I must try that red stain option. Interesting about hand tools. If you are making for your own pleasure, then you can use whatever methods please you bearing in mind what tools and machinery you might have. If you are making for profit, then clearly time is money. Will people pay significantly more for a piece made with few or none powered machinery? Will people pay more because of the feature if it has not benefit? I think that it’s commonly accepted that using the phrase “hand made” doesn’t mean that every part is made without the use of powered equipment (be that machinery to fell the tree; bandsaw to rough cut; router, sander to finish; electric light and heat etc. etc). I think the common understanding that hand made means a piece where a human uses powered equipment to assist in the making but retains the strong element of hand tools. That seems sensible to me. In the pursuit of making a living therefore, I don’t think it would be practically possible or economically feasible to use only hand tools and no electric input. The other reason, as all of you will find out in due course, is that you as you get older and older, the amount of physical work that a body can take diminishes almost daily. I love the act of hand planing but can’t do more than a couple of minutes before my shoulders start screaming. So, I have to ration what I do by hand and what I subcontract to my machinery. All of this is, I admit, a bit of a rambling but I hope it just starts a conversation in your mind as to the question of what gives me pleasure; what is a feature and what is a benefit and the sheer problem of making fine woodworking a paying job.

Gary, I really like your work. I like your focus on hand tool woodworking. I mean no offense but I would find it a little easier to watch without the "Dusty Boys" tabletop. It distracts from being easier to see the details of what you are doing. Thanks for making the videos.
