New follower- *SlothTendencies here, - We chatted on IG (Thank you for the housing advice)* I clicked this video first because I did not know they like water.... I knew they needed humid temps. May I ask what part of the country are you in? I am in Sacramento-- We have a tropical zone 10 here... lots of rain in winter but never below 30. Usually our lows are 36-42 but our highs are up to 106. I have been considering the Sulcata because I have been following an adult male at a rescue who is 110+ years old. I have also considered going with California desert tortoises because... well its California. Indigenous species and all... any suggestions are always welcome and I appreciate you letting me know about your channel. :-)

vceofanangl I’m from Miami and I recommend a desert tortoise to be honest because a Sulcata would either need a hot shed for the winter or to be brought inside when ever it’s under 60 degrees Fahrenheit

@@ShadowsReptiles I have a tendency to agree- I have been doing a lot of research and I know people here have them- But the housing of a sulcata here requires a shed with a heated mat and or a heat lamp.. both of which in the rainy winter worry me about risks of fire etc. I will continue to do my research for this area, but certainly appreciate the advice. I just want to make sure that if I am going to RESCUE a tortoise- its actually helping, not hurting. :-)

vceofanangl yea and specially if it’s rainy because if it’s rainy and cold that’s a really high chance of respiratory infections even here where it usually doesn’t get under 55

@@ShadowsReptiles - Yeah- these are things I need to know. Now I have been looking up Tortoise Colds... lol

vceofanangl yea it’s good that you’re researching before getting one and not just getting it without knowledge
