It is great that you have shows for the kids. It is nice that you are always thinking of the kids. My grand-daughter watches your kid shows with me. She just turned seven this month. We do little woodworking projects, drawing, and gardening together. LOL! It gets her away from her tablet, whew, I'm glad of that. Thanks for this show, she'll be watching with me tonight. Poplar, Aspen, and Butternut are my three favorite woods for the scroll saw. When I was a hornsmyth. I used Butternut every chance I could on the custom engraved powderhorns I made to sell at the blackpowder shoots back in the mid seventies and eighties. Do you use much Butternut? Take care!

That fantastic that you and your granddaughter watch the shows together Michael. A big "hello" from me to her. I hope she enjoys the show and the project. As for butternut, I've never worked with it. I'm not even sure if it is available in my region but I will have to look into it for sure. Thanks for tuning in to the show and good luck on your project.

This is adorable, I love your passion for introducing our children into the shop. Woodworking/woodturning is a fairly new hobby for me, but as a single mother, I immediately saw the value in bringing my 15 y/o son into working with me. Together, we are attempting our first furniture build, a pair of maple/cherry Adirondack rocking chairs (jump in with both feet, they say, haha!). Learning together while teaching him shop safety and basic woodworking techniques will be invaluable in the future! Loving your channel, although I'm really struggling with the deja vu I experience everytime I see you and hear you talk, I'm sure we've crossed paths somewhere!

That's a great story and I love hearing that you are getting your son involved in the hobby. 15 is such an impressionable age and giving him something to be passionate about will definitely help him in the long run. Good for you for being an awesome mom. As for the deja vu and our paths crossing.....you never know. Stranger things have happened in the world. I hope you continue to enjoy the channel. Feel free to send pictures of your chairs when you are done. I'd love to see them. Thanks for tuning in to the show this week.

Kenny, another neat project from your scrap bin. Your idea to cut all the parts and put them in a baggie was really good. The best thing is that those rotors just beg to get spun….wouldn’t be able to help myself..

I know I’ve said this before, it is so awesome how much you think of the kids. I can’t wait for the day to get my little guy out there with me. BTW I have video of him tightening up bolts in the dust collector I just got, 2 1/2 years old and already turning wrenches with the biggest smile on his face.I have a feeling he is going to want to be involved. Thanks for the laugh at the end of the video hahaha really, your gonna denied me 😂 what an excellent show

Great video Kenny, absolutely loved the helicopter taking off, then "What? You're gonna deny me?" and the helicopter comes back so you can wipe it off the screen. Lovely touch! I'm going to send you an email to get the plans, I don't currently have any drawing software that I'm up to speed with, getting ready made plans will let me get into the shop and use up some of those scraps I've been saving. Instant sawdust! Definitely a Christmas present coming out of this! Oh, and by the way, you'd better be careful as you exit the shop. There's a helicopter and tons of other stuff in sharp pieces down there!

Nice upgrade... now kids can build a fleet of varying helicopters... Thanks for your ideas and your sharing. By the way where did you get the magnifier you use at your scroll saw? I am losing some of my vision and need the help on my saw as well. I'm 62 years old now.

Unfortunately Joel, the magnifier that I use is no longer available as it has been discontinued. If you are able to take advantage of Alan's suggestion, that would probably be your best best. Otherwise, I know that Lee Valley has a nice one as well. Not as large as the one on my scroll saw but a great magnifier. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in sir

I love the helicopters (this 1 and the other from a few weeks ago) they are both Whimsical and looks as an easy build, I was asked by a Boys and Girls club if I would be willing to teach 9 to 13yo boys and girls some woodworking, at first I was thinking NO after thinking it over I said yes, today's kids need to keep the woodworking hobby alive (enough of me waffling on) I needed kid friendly projects something that takes 2 - 2 1/2 hours the helicopter patterns are great for the boys and maybe the girls I still need something for the girls though, Ken you saved my life with these patterns LOL THANK YOU, as always great project, I am so grateful that I found your channel, by the way how do you teach kids specially girls 🤔😊

@acutabove_woodworkings

You teach children in the same way that you would teach an adult. They are just small people. The difference with children is that they can pick it up a lot faster than us old guys do so don't underestimate them. The most important thing to remember when teaching young folks woodworking, is that they don't have the skill set that we have. They wont produce a product that is as refined as ours would be but to them, they are creating a masterpiece so be encouraging, be supportive and above all, be patient. As for the projects, helicopters are just as cool for girls as they are for boys. It's all about the adventure and the voyage, not the destination. Good luck with your teaching venture. It sounds like a great time. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
