HOME RUN! Ken, you’ve really outdone yourself with the design on this one. My grandson is going to love it. Fantastic to have it fit within a series too. Many, many thanks. Great show as always.

Ken …. This little project is a winner! Your attention to detail on even these simple little toys is what makes them fun to play with and build. I really like your setup with the straight edge on the side of your “assembly board” …. Great idea that I will definitely be using 🤠

Kenny, wow, more heavy equipment toys. Are you going to make a sandbox in the spring? A certain granddaughter can pretend building a highway across Canada. Great stuff as usual.
@acutabove_woodworkings2 жыл бұрын
I have been thinking on making a sand box for her Paul but I would need it to be covered to keep the neighbourhood cats out of it. I'd hate to provide the neighbourhood with an 8'x8' litter box. If I do build one, you will be sure to see it here on the show. Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words. It's truly appreciated.

Another great project. I am amazed with the designs you develop. Wish I had that computer experience. Keep them coming. Great job..

The computer is what slows me down. I'm actually better on paper than I am with an electronic device but I struggle through the technology to try and keep current and offer my viewers something other than a hand drawn plan. I'm glad that you like the toy. Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words.

Brilliant work, again, thanks. In case you take requests, my little one would like some kind of swiveling crane, maybe with attachments like a wrecking ball.
@acutabove_woodworkings2 жыл бұрын
I may have to look into that one and start designing. The show schedule is booked until the end of June but hopefully, I will be able to come up with something that you will like to air after that. Thanks for tuning in and for the suggestion. It's very much appreciated.

The micro glue bottomless works great, but for things this small like the pivot pin I used either a syringe without a need or a toothpick.

You must have one very happy granddaughter. I'm curious if you are clamping the small pieces when you are gluing them.
@acutabove_woodworkings2 жыл бұрын
She does reap the benefits of my skill set for sure Jim. I honestly think that I'm the lucky one. She's a sweetheart. I do clamp the smaller pieces but naturally, you have to use smaller clamps and use less pressure to secure them in place. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in and for taking the time to leave your comment Jim.

I really like it Kenny! You really flattened me with this one! Nudge-nudge, wink-wink, say no more! I’m finishing up 9 jewelry boxes this weekend, and this is absolutely going to be my next project! Before I saw this video, my next project was going to be learning to use a bottle cutter to make some vases and glasses for a friend, but I vetoed that until further review! It’s steam roller time now!! Hmmmmm. You ever used a bottle cutter? Thanks KW! And keep em coming!
@acutabove_woodworkings2 жыл бұрын
I can honestly say that I've never used a bottle cutter. I'm intrigued though. Good luck with your project Tom. I hope you have fun with it. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Great toy and video. What about finishing. I guess for painting, you would of course hand brush? If applying a finish, would you use a spray shellac , lacquer, or what?
@dwightl58632 жыл бұрын
Either of those finishes would be fine. From my mostly limited experience spraying lacquer gives much better results then brushing lacquer. If you picture these toys getting "rugged" use, several coats of a spray polyurethane would do the trick. When all finishes are fully cured they are kid safe. Exception being lead based paint which isn't available any longer. Then again if you are refinishing a very old toy it would be best to test it first and remove it.
@acutabove_woodworkings2 жыл бұрын
Glad that you like the project and the show Scott. I pretty much concur with what Dwight said in response to your question. I have used Danish Oil, spray lacquer, spray varnish, brush on varnish, paint etc. Smaller projects like this are next to impossible to brush the finish on without getting runs in the finish. There are just too many areas to hook the brush and squeeze out way more finish that you intended. A spray varnish or lacquer is really the way to go here. Just make sure that it is completely, 100% dry before giving it to a child to play with. It might be advisable to finish the roller wheel before assembly to make sure that you get a good even coat on it. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
