Making a TTRPG | Character Sheet | Devlog 1

Another new TTRPG??? Ive been working on a passion project for myself and wanted to share the process. Watch as I create a character sheet for this and discuss some mechanics of my new game. Also be sure to comment and subscribe to help input with the game! Thanks :D

Sure! As it’s not exactly finished yet I’ll give a brief description on how I think it’ll work lol. For now Primary weapon/item is your go to weapon that you wield. It can be One handed/versatile/two handed. Your secondary item is an item that you can either switch to from your primary (without spending stamina) or wielded in your off hand. (This where I improvise) I’m thinking if you take a weapon attack while wielding two weapons, you can technically make two attacks but the one made with your offhand might have its damaged halved unless you have a dual wielding feature. If there’s anything else you’d be interested in let me know and I hope this helped at all 😅

I love this so much. It reminds me of my friends. We played a lot of Tails Of Equestria. Not a perfect game but we love it. One day my best friend decided to make her own system based off Tails. It was a really simple idea. It is now the crazyest game ever. The rules are so simple and well thought out that she changes them every adventure. The adventure we are currenlty playing is a board game. Without changing any of the core rules she turned a TTRPG into a board game and that is not the crazest thing she has done. Sorry for ranting at you. To everyone who wants to make their own game, I just wanted to say don't worry about creating the perfect game. The best rules are guidlines. This is a great video and I hope your system works out well.

Thanks for enjoying! And yeah there are a couple of systems ive been taking a lot of inspiration from/ getting ideas from recently. Ive been doing a lot of cross examination with the newer games DC20 and Daggerheart. But ive also gotten inso from games like, Hero-quest, DnD, Vampire the masquerade, call of Cthulhu, Monster of the Week, Pathfinder and a bunch others more. Of course I also take a lot of inspo from video games too like For the King, Hollow knight, and hades. Theres a little too much research ive been doing to make this game everything i want it but i can share more inspo as we get there too :))

It seems you have made a huge amount of progress in the spam of 5 months; I have been working on my own ttrpg for the better part of three years, though much less productively than you. To part some advice, it is always good to keep in mind that much of what you have will not be the same in the final product, you may erase entire mechanics because they don't work well anymore. Also look at as many medias to find interesting mechanics to add to your game, many people have thought up the ingenious solutions to help make your ttrpg feel whole. I would also say that going down the path of making a character in your game is a great way to know if you have enough rules and mechanics for it to be played. Have fun with your beautiful work of creation!

Thanks so much! I appreciate the advice! I’ve definitely had to rework a lot already and still have a long way to go. I started making these videos definitely to help my progress and help give me a goal to work towards. Having this video out and already seeing some engagement helps a lot mentally too to see that this is real and not just something in my head lol. Thanks again it means a lot :))

I'm cautious about using damage thresholds. Based on my past experiences, they can often contribute to overly drawn-out combat, much like the problem caused by excessively high Hit Point values.

I’ve been debating damage thresholds for a bit now and I agree and still haven’t come to a conclusion if I like them or not. The biggest reason I keep them in at the moment, is because I like rolling big numbers for damage 😂. Another system I really enjoy (hero quest) is the opposite side of that coin, where you your attack dice against an enemy defense dice and if you exceed their defense you deal damage equal to the damage left over. It’s a fine system and I think it would be efficient but rolling high numbers is so much fun 😂. Thanks for the comment tho I appreciate the interest and feedback :))

@@KindredKio I understand. I'll follow your devlog carefully to compare it with my design choices. It's interesting that we share a concern about bloat, but have different approaches.
