Earlier this spring we had a question come in asking how to make a turkey wing (or "wing flapper" or "turkey flapper" depending on what you want to call it) for use while turkey hunting. In this video, Chris goes over what a turkey wing is used for, how it's used, and - most importantly - how to make one from the wing of a turkey.

Thanks, brother! The wing is DEADLY when working birds off the roost; most of the time, I use the wing as a supplement to the calling I'm doing and it works great. However, with call-shy birds (gobblers, or gobblers locked down with finicky hens), the wing can sometimes be all you need to get the bird to pitch out by your set-up looking for the turkey he just heard fly down. ...and it can be a phenomenal "call" when hunting late season gobblers when things are starting to wind down.

Chris your stuff is awesome! Keep up the great work! I will have to try the wing. I already painted my Strutters head and they loved it.

im super new into all this, self teaching through KZbin. got my first squirrel hide in the works. it's comments like yours that let me expand my knowledge. I never heard of a strutter but now I have a general idea of what it is and is for, and that its a very useful thing I should learn about. thank you!

Remember - if you do NOT want the additional arm bones to use as an extended handle, you do NOT need to cut those off of the bird and flesh them out. Simply cut the wing off of the bird at the wrist joint and flesh out the "hand" and "finger" bones at the base of the primaries and cure it out from there. ...that will give you a turkey "wing flapper" like the one I show you at the end.

Easier system . Cut feathers off at meat . Take a 1/4 inch board and cut it into a handle . Drill 5 or six holes at the top of the handle . Two part epoxy (5min) the wing feathers into the holes . Hunt turkey

Hi,Just ran across your post. Great job explaining the process. I was wondering if there was anyway you could post a drawing of the handle so I could make one?

Sorry for the late response...just got back from guiding turkey hunts in Mexico... If you're talking about the plastic Primos one, I don't have a drawing available. Sorry about that. If you're talking about the bone extension "handle", honestly, skip it...it's more trouble than it's worth. Seriously. Just use the dried bone from the wrist forward - like I use in the video. It'll last longer, and you'll have more leverage to really get the volume up when flapping.

Can you keep the primary and secondary feathers together?
@RoeHuntingResources
@RoeHuntingResources 10 жыл бұрын
You can, but IMO you'll get better results with just the primaries; with the secondary feathers there, you'll pushing a lot more wind, but a lot quieter, so it's harder to "flap" and you don't get the sound of the "wind rushing through the feathers" like you do with just the primaries. ...BUT - with that said - if you want to try it, go for it, and see if it works for you.

They hear hens and other gobblers everyday of the year.....there is no such thing as a call shy turkey....it's the pressure they feel from human presence in the woods.....quit making content when you don't know what ur talking about.....I've killed countless turkeys where someone says they just ain't gobbling or responding to a call....you know turkeys drum to a call...and don't always gobble....it's a lil advanced for you..lol
