ya'know, I forgot he never finished that. I say he should go with more of that white micarta with union jack on one side of the handle and good ol' Americana on the on the other, doing parve settings. make it difficult just because it took so long and... well, more practice.

Found your channel last year and I love you guys I’m trying to get into the craft myself as a hobby and I gotta say as somebody just getting started I really appreciate how honest and unashamed both Alec and Will are when they make an oops during the process it’s hugely encouraging to me to see people who have demonstrated considerable skill still be able to humbly admit to mistakes and set about fixing them without falling into the ego trap love your work guys and keep hammering

This video is an excellent example of why the term Black Smith came about. I just love the way Will gets a darker patina of carbon as he gets further into his builds. Great videos guys keep 'em coming!

Recommendation: You guys should try to make a damascus/wood/resin, engraved cane of some sort, possibly with a custom handle. Would be very classy! (especially if there is a sword included)

Am I the only one who appreciates Will’s youth??? I’m twice his age, and while he knows his way around a forge, I know my way around life and my old body (it’s not the age, it’s the mileage), and we are both awkward and trip over stuff. Will, love you little brother. Love the work you do and the passion in which you live and work.

Hey Will! Just FYI with those ovens the blade should be put in after the oven is up to temp to reduce grain growth.

Yes,i wanted to tell him that as well. I made this mistake myself once.the surface didnt harden at all,because the carbon burned out. The core only made it to about 48 HRC even before the annealing.

Beautiful Craftsmanship so far guys can not wait to see this thing finished i know it will be awesome. I have seen other chef knifes forged by you guys. Ten years in the business I would be proud bringing out a knife by you two everyday while on the line. Really cool you guys made this for a man with 20 year in one place. Congrats to that guy because that is rare in some places I have seem my share of chefs come and go.

he did a mock forged in fire sword challenge a year or two ago, and it seems so much more diffuclt than i is on the show. just shows how good those people on the show are, as Alec found it quite difficult.

At that point I just go by which PPE they're wearing. Will wears a half mask with safety glasses, Alec wears the full face positive pressure rig.

@@splitmac nah he doesn’t work at a restaurant for 20 years. I don’t think he’s actually being a chef anywhere in particular rn. I think he’s mostly leaving the running of his restaurants to skilled chefs he’s trained over the years.

I think you really made a mistake going with 400 degrees, not that 425 would have been better. What you should have done was 401 degrees, just UTTER perfection :P

I think the reason watching this channel is so interesting is because this isn't just a hobby. It's a job. There is such a sense of professionalism. True they still do what they want in the end but thats because they are a two man company so it's there choice. It's not them doing some for the camera, it's them doing something in front of the camera.

Long time subscriber here. I’ve been thinking of this idea for you to do. It would be awesome to see a series where you make “tools of the trade” custom tools for example, carpenters make a claw hammer, ironworkers make a set of spud wrenches, so on and so forth. Ever since I saw your millwright friend on there it gave me the idea.

Poor Will. It's so sad that he 'kicked the bucket'. Honestly, I think I love the fact that you guys are not afraid to show us your slip-ups and mistakes almost as much as the work you do. It just makes it a more real-world experience, but then it leaves you with no content for blooper videos. 😁
