Was hearing wriders in the sky while you made this pattern you are a artist I have been doing leather craft for 40 years and you are doing a damn good job i am just a old cowboy from Texas who loves to design leather god bless

really like that you show how much of a pain in the ass making a pattern is, i think alot of people lose that aspect in videos that cut straight to a design already being ready to trace on the leather. Anyone can trace a pattern and cut it out, but actually making the pattern and having it work in a manner that the gun fits and can be stitched up right at the end is where the real craft skill is.

I'm in your debt for this vid , pardner . Of all the great rig videos this 1 is my favorite . That's saying a LOT . And how I never heard about that book untill now is past me . I can't wait untill my copy gets here in about a week . I've been looking for ideas on simple border tooling and it looks like this book has just what I'm looking for .

This process is my favorite part of the craft. Be it an old style western rig, or for a modern auto loader, I go through the same process. Re-creating something from a picture is the best challenge. I like how you used reference measurements in the picture to translate to the real firearm.

Idk if this would help you at all but i figured out if you take two pieces of blue painters tape and stack em on top of each other and place it on the leather. It will act as a stop for the stitch groover. Like lets say you have a line you dont wanna cross or you wanna prevent yourself from going way too far with your groover. Place the tape down and the groover will stop when it hits the tape and will NOT cut through it. Is a safety net for preventing mistakes when using it. Helps also with the wing dividers and such. So you can have a more accurate border easier without the fear of making a mistake and cutting too far and having to start again cause the blade got dull or something and it jerked forward

When you first offer up the template to the leather, after you have outlined would it be easier to use the swivel knife as your first cut and then follow with a better blade? I do understand it's double work but would that first cut give your main cutting blade a trough to follow and take some of the strain off when you are trying to cut through the hide and also follow the line? I am new to this so please forgive me if this is a stupid question. All the best from Scotland

Al Stohlman writes about them in his books. The patterns sold by Will Ghormley have belt and cartridge loops. I'd start there.

When you added 1/8th inch to each side of the pattern, you said that equals 1/4 inch. It doesn't, because you're moving each side away from the center, and when folded and put together, it only equals 1/8 of an inch further away from the center. Make sense?

love your work but would like to see you eliminate the two stitches you put between the cartridge loops, cartridges could eventually fray them and honestly looks bad. I don't mean to be critical or an ass,but would like to see a slot and weave style loop strip that ajar france uses. only problem is he doesn't show enough detail when doing it whereas you usually do very well covering the trickier details .
