The copper rivet set I used had two openings on the end. One to dome the rivet like yours does. But the other puts a dimple in the end which spreads the rivet out evenly. Our rivets were the right length since we did the same operations all the time. So you would put on washer. Dimple rivet. Flatten rivet with just the hammer one or two moderate blows. Then dome the rivet. TaDa. FWIW

@LittleKingGoods

I use a company called Kitchener Die Craftsman. Cutting by hand you can do multiple straight cuts and follow the radius. Tonnes of little cuts make a beautiful rounded corner.

Just subscribed ! You really know how to get everything right on the video production as well as the project. You deserve a snack. Could you have done this with your Techsew? I am buying my first machine and would like to do both leather and materials such as the waxed canvas. Thanks man.
@LittleKingGoods
@LittleKingGoods 5 жыл бұрын
Haha thanks! The 5100 I have is not the ideal machine for waxed canvas. If I had to get my first machine it would be the 2750 Pro with a speed reducer. That machine will easily do leather and waxed canvas. If you do end up buying a techsew use code LKGDS when you check out or if you talk to them. You will get a free accessories package!

Hey, great work (on the apron and on the video). I just had to say, when you made the comment about how much harder it is to make something AND film it, I almost knocked off my headphones nodding in agreement! On the rare occasion that I sew something and DON'T film it, I'm always amazed at how much quicker it seems. You're doing some good stuff here, thanks for sharing and keep it up!

I don't mean to sound nosy, but may I ask what your entire investment has been towards leather working from threads, tools, machinery, components, gold foiling, and leather? And would you recommend tools from places like Wish or Harbor Freight? I would really like to get into canvas working with a bit of leather, but the investment worries me. I wouldn't buy them all at once, but where would you recommend starting?

I've watched this video many times over the last year. It always inspires me to think about ways to "keep going" with leathercrafting and doing something you love. For myself, one of the barriers to constant projects with leathercraft is the cost of leather of various thickness and quality. This video seems like a great opportunity to work on a very symmetric project where you use all your leather skills and also see the opportunity for mixed media projects and a way to save money. Thanks again for making this video and showing your love and enjoyment of leathercraft! Do you think of the cost to a new student when you make your videos? I would love to know your thought process for things like this...so inspiring.
