Good tips! I also love the layout of your website. I went to some other photographers website who claimed to be professional but I didn't get that feeling at all after visiting her site. She was doing like you said not to and had like 20 shots put up from the same shoot with only minor differences in some of the photos. They weren't even that good either. I immediately thought this is not a professional photographer but an amateur after seeing that.

Jessica, thanks so much for the tips! I’ve been trying to work with Squarespace, but am having trouble designing it. I’m trying to add some of my favorite colors like pink and purple, but it ends up looking tacky. I was trying to be different instead of doing the black and white, but it’s not working out. Any suggestions??

I tried a few different web builders, and prefer Format. First , Format designs are beautiful- simple, clean, eye catching, professional. Easy to navigate their interface and experiment with themes and templates. And they work well- very smooth functioning. I tried a few other web page builders, and in my experience they were more "glitchy". Second, I am very very impressed with how the people at Format really care and are so good in terms of customer service. Third, unlike other web builders- Format is run by and for artists. I feel like its not only a web builder, but without getting too "warm and fuzzy", they really seem like they are building a community or artists. Not only by their web design and customer service, but by creating an online magazine for artists. I feel like I'm more part of a community than just a number.

I've used platforms like angelfire, geocities, wordpress, textpattern, etc. practically everything and by far Squarespace has been the best. I was always stressed out using Wordpress if I'm being 100% honest. I've used it for YEARS. Anddd yes at the end of a 2 week coding period my website would look pretty good but down the line *something* would go wrong. Whether that was a plugin that needed updating, the theme that had a code that needed to be upgraded or maybe a page didn't work anymore, etc. it was just a process. I would spend hours coding each page to fit the layout and update plugins and themes, etc. all the time, and I couldn't stand it. It just took too much time. I actually stopped coding altogether and updating my website when I used Wordpress. I dreaded adding anything or even changing a template because I knew I would have to fix coding for it and figure out javascript, css, html etc. for one little thing. I've been creating websites and coding by hand since I was about 13-14 so I've used enough platforms to know that Squarespace has just been the easiest for me!

It's Forte. You can see it in the code for the page under "TemplateID," but it's been jazzed up, either with tweaks built into squarespace or by custom coding. Forte doesn't arrange pics like she has them on the page. It is curious to me - why make a video extolling the virtues of making an easy website and not be forthcoming about what template you're using and how you got it to look so clean?
