Hello, I'm sorry it's been a while since I've uploaded a video. I've been working on a commission for a client who requested me to make her a whole cloth cot quilt based on a 1920s design. I decided to film the process and that's what I'm showing you today. I'll also be giving you a few hints and tips on hand quilting.

Hi everyone, thanks for showing so much interest in this video. I've had several comments recently asking about the quilt pattern itself so here is a link to Sandie Lush website welshquilting.design/shopping/

I can’t even imagine what price you could put on such incredible hand work. Love that every bit of it was done by hand. Thank you for the history lesson in the beginning of the video. I so wish there were some good filmmakers out there to make movies about all the master craftsmen and craftswomen who made the royal garments and furnishings and beautiful things we enjoy looking at in museums.

Eleanor- Please do not say that you are not a professional or not very good at quilting! Your work looks absolutely impeccable❣ It does not matter what kind of needle you use. You my dear, under-sell yourself. Stop that please. You are lovey, as is your work. Even my pooch Chica knows that. AND - We both greatly love your soothing and calm voice. Keep up the GREAT work. XXXXX😍🙂😍🙂😍 Carry on - Full Steam Ahead😉

I've only done hand quilting, and now my hands are quite arthritic, I'm learning machine quilting. It'll do for everyday quilts but when it comes to special quilts there's nothing like hand quilting and yours, in my opinion is exquisite. Your scallop edge is beautiful. Thank you from California. Your tutorial was perfect.

This is absolutely stunning. University of Lincoln in Nebraska has an International Quilt Museum and one of the displays was whitework quilting. They had clothing and quilts from all time periods. The history and the esquisite work was mind-blowing. I love whole cloth quilts but have done them by machine. What was brought up was how many skills were lost during the Black Plague and never recovered. Again, beautiful job.

@eleanorbirchellhughes How did you do the scalloped edge? Just heard of this a few minutes ago and did a search only to find the quaint old time quilts I remember! Are there any books in particular you would suggest for wholecloth quilting? How is the tacking done, does it need to be close together? I'm an avid crafter of all types. I also live in an RV. Already got my wheels turning on How I can manage to do one of these in my small space. I for one do most everything by hand especially sewing. We've lost a o many skills due to the love of high-tech everything it's sad to see. I've even started hand sewing my own clothing when I have time they last longer in my experience and I get creative outlet. Not to mention my pieces are great conversation starters strangers come up often to ask about or comment on my skirts. I'm definitely intrigued with the idear of making one of those petticoats! Thank you so much for sharing some of the old world with us!

Loved your video. There is nothing finer or more beautiful that a wholecloth quilt. I have made one but it was preprinted. Guess you could call it "cheating". I have intentions to make one that I will mark myself and use this tutorial as a guide. I do have a question for you, though.....when you are ready to quilt do you start in the middle and work around that or start in a corner and work towards the other side? Thank you for sharing your expertise!

This is definitely on my bucket list to do someday. For the aquamarker, do you have issues with the marks becoming lighter in a damp climate? I'm in the Pacific NW of the US, and the water-erase markers I've used so far tend to disappear before I have a chance to get very far. Or is it not as damp in the air where you are in Wales? I also worry about a heat-erase marker going away with the warmth of my hands. EDIT: Never mind! I just got to the part of the video where you talked about it. :)
