This video is a step by step process of making a jam chuck for a wood lathe. This particular jam chuck is used for reverse chucking, or finishing the bases of wooden bowls and/or plates; a cheap alternative to purchasing cole jaws, or long worth chucks for wood lathes. This is a fast and simple project to complete.

I create handmade, high quality wood pieces (and sometimes, crafts using other mediums such as natural stone or acrylic) that connect to people on an emotional level. Each piece is meticulously designed to look and feel like an art piece. I have always adored art, and have an underlining mission to incorporate my knowledge and skills into wood turning. With my videos, I hope to inspire and encourage others while promoting wood turning, experimentation, and safety. Please stay safe at all times!

Found your videos today and made direct use of this one already! I made my first face turned piece today. I finished the back using the base plate with attached 1/4 inch plywood and shelf liner. For this run, the liner was held in place between the poplar dish and plywood by friction alone.

Hi, thanks for watching. I'm so glad you were able to make use of the video, it means a lot to me. I bet the 1/4 ply is much lighter than the 3/4 I used. The shelf liner works great, I use it for sanding on my work benches as well. Cheers my friend.

Thanks for the video. Do you have a dedicated faceplate for the jam chuck or do you remove and put it back on each time you use it? If so, does it affect the alignment of the jam chuck at all? Thanks again!

Steven Lee Hi, I sometimes take the face plate off and put it back on. The screws I used, fit snug in the face plate holes with no slop. So, when I put the face plate back on, it's always in the same spot. Good question. Thanks for watching.

Berny M hi, thank you and for watching. The sander cleaner is an abrasive cleaner stick. They work great and prolong the life of the sanding belts.
