Watching the process out of wood, spectacular! I have watched a number of videos on steel and metal, but this was satisfying to watch. Well done!

This type of design is made traditionally in Japan, however it is not katana, since it is not steel, and its not bokken or bokuto. This would be considered "tsunagi". The purpose of tsunagi is to replicate the general blade shape so the koshirae can be stored/displayed without the actual blade. This was typically only found in the highest ranks of samurai, as they would be the only ones who could afford or require more than one set of koshirae. If you go to a Japanese museum and see swords displayed on a kake with koshirae on top and blade on bottom, a tsunagi is inside the koshirae holding everything together for display.

Great job on making such a beautiful bokuto. If you make another one, I recommend using the small hand plane and spokeshave more to assist with those curved sections.

I love it, it's beautiful piece of art but you for got the pins in the handle and it mightve prevented the epoxy in the handle. And the little art pieces under the wrap in the handle. But no hate just a katana lover ❤ great job man

You only need mekugi (wooden pins) to hold the nakago (tang) to the tsuka (handle). Bokken being one solid piece do not require mekugi

For your friend i would be clear about waste side and what side to be close to on. You can shape with a sander not just go to a line the use a router. Also if you don't know the value of a sharp chisel im sure they could get better learning sorce elsewhere.

I nearly clicked off after you started cutting the template, so many videos claim to be forging the katana when they just cut it out of metal and or machine it and sharpen it with no forging to be found anywhere in the video, i forgot the sword was being made out of wood and you never claimed to be forging
