Reminds me of my motorcycle's gearbox. No surprise, according to the manual is constant mesh.

Presumably also a sequential shift mechanism, unlike mine!

Awesome. This is a wonderful creation. I'm a very basic hobby machinist, and am mesmerized by your achievement and particularly the workholding methods you employ. Thank you for the time spent on this video, inspirational!

Nice machining to make this transmission. Had to be interesting to design such a transmission as well. But once you get it all working as planed it work great. Thumbs Up!

MUCH respect for your knowledge and teaching abilities; you've struck the perfect balance of art and science for me ....and thank you, THANK YOU for NOT making your presentations mostly about your face and your lame attempts pretending to be an actor with 3rd grade level show and tell ad lib skills....like so many, many other channels

I'm more than suitably impressed. A classic example of I guess old school model engineering and figuring out how to get it done with what's on hand. And imo less and less M.E.'s seem to have or are at least willing to do today. I am bit surprised you haven't yet added the George Thomas head stock dividing attachment to that Myford yet.

I have been wondering about how the dog clutches are tensioned together before they mesh. They are not synchronized and can meet tooth-to-tooth when gears are switched, so they need to be pressed together for a small time before they rotate enough to get the teeth into detents. However, when you ride e.g. a motorcycle with a constant mesh transmission, you just click the pedal to shift and it shifts, you don't have to hold it down or up.

I think the motorcycle dog clutches have wider tooth spacing so they engage more quickly (maybe something to change on my design). This video gives a good insight: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5usmIZ8j9CGnKcsi=9wgUfYQBSToVN0GS.

Impressive. You did a very nice job. Was this modeled after any particular gearbox?

Thanks - no, it’s not a scale model but it’s a simplified version of a typical car manual gearbox. Synchromesh would have been a step too far at this small scale, for me a at least.
