Gifted teacher here...just an idea for a creativity project for the kids. What if you take those stained cutoff pieces from the rafters and challenge them to piece them into a block mural on one of the playhouse walls inside? I saw long triangles and some rectangles I think. Guess I'm always seeing STEM project ideas using items that would normally be waste! Anyway, it was just a creativity idea I had and thought I would share! Love watching all the growth on the 41.36. I've been quietly watching and admiring all of you guys since camp life! You guys are truly an inspiration!❤❤

I do something like that for my 6 and4 year old grandsons. They just can’t wait to come to granddaddy’s house. I drill the holes for them and they nail them to everything that doesn’t move.

I often find myself wondering if i would have the patience to build my own home. Lol. Watching your channel and others it seems easier than it is but you can't tell the toll it takes. You guys have really transformed that place and are doing great. Both families have come a long way just over the past year. Proud if you guys even though im nobody, it takes a lot to do what you're doing and im not just talking about financially. You are strong and very self motivated and you work together as a family. There's not a lot of that left in the world today.

❤ Wow! Sometimes I think you are holding out on us. From what I've seen on this episode a very big difference has been happening everywhere from the house, garden spot is another Wow. Down the hill on the animals are growing so fast. It will not be long before you will be putting groceries in the freezer. I think Gary does a great job of keeping the design of the house and buildings on the property strong as he can. I like that attitude towards building. The two of you are really hard working couple. Enjoyed the show and keep em coming. ❤

You can hook PVC pipe over your t-posts and put chicken wire on them and let your peas and cucumbers or other vines grow on them, thus putting shade on the ground plants. I used to plant my radishes and small onions in the block holes letting me have more room for other plants in the bed.

To help with your garden, you all need shade cloth over the area, and could possibly use hoops or cattle panels with shade clothes over them. ( probably need 40-50% shade cloth). I love you and the whole framily!!

Hi Gary and Mel, yep it’s good Yakka just getting it done, those rafters look heavy and awkward, but teamwork succeeded. Those lateral rafters will be a challenge with their complex angles, a test for creative problem solving. It’s something that I try to solve on paper to form a plan of attack. Just a thought about the chicken barn , have you thought of making a a ventilated ridge capping, that’s will keep the heat lower. take care and stay safe.

I like the template idea .. it makes sense to take the time to do that and everything will go faster in the long run.. no constantly having to measure every one individually.. put the template on the board, mark and cut.. The garden looks fantastic! The animals are doing well too.. I’m a bit surprised you lost so many baby chicks.. I knew you would loose some but, not so many..

Hi 👋 the Garden is doing so great... Amazing.... in my opinion, you should be dragging all the mowed down racked up stuff into the chicken run . A) the more free stuff they eat , the less store bought they eat. B) you will creating better compost and more of it ..... I am thinking a wheel barrows worth every day for a while.. Summer is here the Kids will need something to do...Ha Ha .... Great Build.....Great Kids.....Great Critters 😊

On your new shed you built use some of your scrap wood and make frames for those vent windows add heavy clear plastic vis queen like you put over the openings on the house and staple it to the frames then hinge them at the top and add latches and prop arms ... they'll keep the rain out but allow sun but if it gets to hot you can prop them up and allow air but they'll be like an awning to keep some of rain elements out . Later use Palram polycarbonate clear green house panel to replace vis Queen..

I hope that thin cut end isn’t all your planning on attaching that to the existing roof !? Or otherwise If you get some strong winds that decking roof could very possibly get snatched right off of that house. Those rafters need to be tied Through the existing roof and attached to the house Roof Trusses. Then down at the soffit area have upright Vertical braces tied into the roof trusses and back up to & tied into the rafters to give those rafters more support against wind. Not only support against wind but just as importantly load bearing support. Because if you don’t add vertical support braces on every rafter you’re not going to have any load bearing support. Reason I’m telling you this is if you get a load of snow on there the way you’re planning on attaching it there’s nothing to stop that heavy load from buckling that roof. My strong opinion is Gary Swallow your pride & consult with a local professional carpenter about what I’m telling ya. Because if you don’t & in the future a heavy snow load or strong winds and tens of thousands of dollars in damage later.... You’ll wish you had of. I’m only trying to give you some sound carpenters advice to save you a lot of heartache and money in the near future.
@Sleekfalcon
@Sleekfalcon Ай бұрын
There's not much of a snow load in northern Arkansas, about the same as I get here in missouri. But I understand what you're saying. I have been wondering about what they are going to do with it. Something felt off about it but I'm not a carpenter either. Just know how I typically see porch roofs attached, the way you described. I would definitely be worried about the wind for sure, these storms are ridiculous bringing pretty high winds.

Looking real good Guys! The Garden is coming on well. Have you thought about planting some Fruit Tree's? Apple, Pair and Cherries? The Cherry Tree in Bloom covered in Flower is a sight to behold. You can get the Dwarf Variety that will only grow to around six foot so will not block your views. You can also just grow them in a large Plant Pot. My Dwarf Apple Tree give's me around 50 pounds of Fruit a year. They are very hardy and take very little maintenance.

"Bing bonging" First time I heard that one 😊 It basically means quit yakking and get busy. In the UK they use the term " waffling " which means the same thing.😊 Gary it's better to over think than take the chance on not getting it right. Glad to see the rabbits doing okay. Excited to see the next step on the deck build. Be safe up there.

Lettuces are part shade plants, they bolt in the sun. They make sun shade material that can be put up & taken down. It lets just enough sun in too. The garden looks amazing. I’m in PA, last frost date 4/30. We’ve had all our early Spring plants in(onions, potatoes using the Ruth Stoudt method, peas etc) & have everything but the tomatoes I started indoors bc I got my seeds later in the season. Only have a couple more plants to go in & we’ll be done. We have raised beds in several areas, but don’t have a lot of yard space so we have 2 Greenstalks, 1 3 tier which is on our porch that’s full of lettuces which gets part shade. It’s on a spinner, so I turn it every night. The 5 tier is new. It’s a full garden, just vertical. So excited for garden & canning season!
