Aloha. The first frieght car was empty. It looks like a cross between a well car and a gondola. There appeared a similar car a few behind it. But that car seemed to have a tank of some sort in the well. Thx

If you were a crew member and not expecting something like that you feel a bit blindsided. I worked for a boss who consistently who would find the stuff that mysteriously showed up at 1:00 p.m. as you're putting together the next day's assignments and suddenly you had to get several people off of work or give them special assignments and you already had laid out part of it and now it was all for naught. 82 cars is like an extra train and if there was inclement weather or congestion a lot of stuff goes down the drain. That conductor is probably on your videos more often than not it appears to be one of the friendlier ones. Seeing him with his brake stick reminded me that the first place I ever saw it used was on the NS near Bluefield WV. Many employees commented that climbing hopper cars really wore one out and could be slippery or icy not to mention coal dust dirt. It would have been fun to surprise the engineer with the Amish wagon delivering the conductor lol

@@paulbergen9114 it’s really nice I know a lot of the crews in Peru. I never thought about how dirty a coal car would be especially in the snow and rain.

*If you were a crew member and not expecting something like that you feel a bit blindsided* i worked the pool on the chicago and northwestern between butler and adams... working the pool is one big giant blindside... you NEVER know about ANYTHING in advance... everything that happens is literally dropped in your lap right in that moment... road guys take that kinda stuff in stride... because they know any extra work means extra pay

the strength of the US economy can be can be judged by the railroads. that's right. While in-service had the chance to serve with two former railroaders on the old Mopar line, and I can't remember which rail road the other worked on. Both told me the exact same thing. Railroads are the best scale to determine the state of the economy. When the economy is strong and thriving, then you will see more trains that are shorter. When it is weak and sluggish, you will see fewer but longer trains. since that time, and this was 30 years ago, I have watched trains, and what they both said has come to bear fruit. For 4 years you have heard the current administration state they have improved the economy and it is thriving and stronger and yet I go to a railyard and sit and wait and wait and when a train rolls thru it is long and few in between. So this shows that the trains are speaking loudly a different tune of the economy. Sorry, I'll believe the railroads before a politician

This Ridiculous Nonsense Continues. Class I Railroads have already Proven that the Power Groups have NO Earthly Idea on how Much Power is Necessary. 🤪👎
@cdavid8139
@cdavid8139 Күн бұрын
You are right in the it continues. I've been railroading over 4 decades and I've been sending out trains (or moving them) without enough power the entire time. IN today's age though we absolutely have an 'earthly idea' on how much power is necessary. What railfans don't always get though is what you think you are starting out with doesn't end up being what you have over the entire route. The simple matter-of-fact is that things will and do go wrong. Units rated as 'x' tractive effort end up deciding to not produce that power. Weather changes. Speed restrictions or meets change things. Sometimes unscheduled pickups take you to your tractive effort limits. So while I agree with you that the issue 'continues' I disagree with decades of experience that those making the decision have no earthly idea
