Well JT I’m glad you got to catch the tag heritage unit that is one beautiful locomotive and I can’t wait till it comes to New Orleans so I can see it in person. The pulling the weight of the world heritage unit was in New Orleans. I think about two weeks ago, and the only woman engineer that runs from Meridian Mississippi to New Orleans, which is a real good friend of mine. She’s the one that got to bring it down, but I had to go up to the tracks around 1230 that night to catch it coming down but anyway my friend another awesome video and you stay warm out there and as always you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one

@@JawTooth I can never decide the length of the container cars. 53' is the size of the box they can carry. Some websites say their 53' container cars are 77' long coupler to coupler, but these are clearly not that long. More like maybe 60', and the little ones are 40' containers, so maybe 50' coupler to coupler. So, if you count 142 cars as 110 of the sixty footers and 30 of the 50s, you get 1.55 miles total length. So maybe that is close. It must weigh 14,000 tons or so, that is an awful lot for one loco, but it wasn't struggling at all. Impressive. I wonder what the hp of that loco is. Freight trains can go as low as 0.1 hp/ton on flat, clean straight track, but more like 5hp per ton or more, for passenger service.

I've posted this before but here goes: There's been a revolution in AI being applied to locomotives in the waveform section of the drive to increase tractive effort and more evenly apply tractive effort and control back EMF from the traction motors. This is all energy that used to get wasted but is now being put to use. More and more non priority trains will be hauled by one locomotive in the future. Great video as usual, liked it much. Thanks JT!

I remember one or two trains running the TAG when I was very young. Over the years I've seen the Alabama side of it slowly but surely be earesed. I located the bridge that was at Yellow Creek, I had contacted Cherokee County about it and they tried to retrieve it, or at least a section of it. I think Norfolk didn't want to have that conversation. They ended up selling part of the tracks in Gadsden to the city for a walking trail, The bridge was sitting beside the old tracks where the depot used to be, close to it. They took cutting torches and cut it up for scrap. It was a sad day to see it go. I've seen 80 at TVRM not that long ago. Glad to see both of them on the rails still operating today. Those are some nice looking locomotives.

5:20 NOKL = Northwestern Oklahoma Railroad aka NOKL Railroad. But they do not own these cars. Quoting from TroveStar - "NOKL was established in 1973 to take over operation of the 9 mile former M-K-T line connecting Fisk, Woodward and Warner, Oklahoma. Customers include a grain elevator and a railroad car repair shop. They currently lease out their reporting marks so the many thousands of freight cars lettered NOKL actually belong to the First Union Rail car leasing operation and not this shortline."
@jameschristiansson3137Ай бұрын
"This begs the question, why a leasing company would bother to lease a shortline’s reporting marks when they could just use their own (something ending in X such as NDYX, also used by First Union.) There is a difference between private owners and railroad owners in how car-hire is billed. Private owner cars are billed by the mile. Railroad owned cars are billed by a complex formula including per diem, the age of the car and the mileage. Therefore, depending on the service, the leasing companies earn more by using a railroad reporting mark for a car and other times they are better off running the car as a private owner." - TroveStar
