@@brissygirl4997 I think CJ Arthur is a woman? Anwyas, I read tons of historical romances that are written by women who misunderstand women's fashion history, it's a symptom of the larger problem of historical fiction misunderstanding women's history and thinking you need a heroine to be anachronistic to be strong or empowered. The quote "Well-behaved women rarely make history" is actually about how regular women deserve to be remembered too, how you shouldn't need to run off and do "man things" to be remembered. That said there has been a trend recently to write "heroines" whose reluctance to conform with fashion or gender norms is actually indicative of explicit Gender Stuff rather than just like a "cool girl" thing and I am Here For That.

This is absolutely gorgeous. The closeups of hand stitching with accompanying piano music are lovely and soothing. But I wish that you would do a little more describing of what you're doing during construction, the way you do during drafting. There was no narration between the busk insertion at 16:45 and the discussion of extra boning channels at 20:16, and especially at around 19:00, with the layers of ribbon and coutil, it is a bit hard to tell what's going on. Even a mention of which part you're sewing at the beginning of each new section would help. I had to go back and watch it again, because at first I was confused as to which parts were lined and which weren't and how the horizontal ribbons were attached to the vertical pieces. But thank you again for a breathtakingly beautiful and inspiring video.

One could theoretically wear an under bust corset with a chemise fitted at the bust and add padding and/or a bust bodice and/or a ruffled corset cover to achieve the fashionable pigeon breasted silhouette.

This pattern feels less intimidating. I would be tempted to make the panels using the ribbons horizontally instead of vertically. It might make it easier to adjust silhouette when fitting it as well as adding channels for boning and busque.
@AlexaFaie3 жыл бұрын
Putting the ribbons in horizontally allows for them to flex around the curves of the body. Vertically wouldn't have nearly the same effect and would result in needing lots of very tiny panels which can't be easily made wider and narrower where needed (because ribbon cut like that will fray badly and lose its structure).

The whole purpose of corsets is to create a specific silhouette. Primarily by reducing the waist. So they make you look curvy. You make the underbust and hips match your own measurements (or be a little larger for any flesh displacement or padding if you want to boost the illusion without much waist reduction) and then you make the waist smaller than your natural waist measurement. Usual reductions for people new to corsetry is 2 to 4 inches smaller than your natural waist (not to lace shut immediately, over time you build up to it).

My first question is can this be made in cotton strips not necessarily ribbons? Secondly. Is there a pattern I could buy to make and adapt to my own body. Lastly. I find corsets hot, but only because I’ve worn combination of cotton inside and poly on the out side. Would this be uncomfortable. I’m proficient sewer as I’m a quilter but I did find following your modification of a pattern complicated. I am so looking for more support! Your corset looks comfortable and supportive. If I needed more support where would you suggest I had more boning, and what sort of boning? Steel, plastic or spiral? I’ve been doing lots of research so I really have enjoyed your corset vids but now I’m loving the other vids you make. Maybe if I perfect this ribbon corset and find it supportive, relatively easy to constructing and provides a correct silhouette it could be a spin off of your KZbin!
