The handle has a great look to it and I loved the rigorous testing routine. It's good to plan all this out ahead of time. Do you want a box of gloves for Christmas?

Caught me swimming in your end of the pool, Peter :D I've had the same box of gloves for the past 10 years, or so. Amazing how long they last when you don't actually use them.

I love the texture of the handle, right call not to oil it and the pins turned out fantastic John. I thought you were nuts with the casting resin but you made it work for you. A great lesson in making use of what you have on hand and turning out something very nice.

Man that was probably my favorite video of yours. The whole epoxy fiasco was hilarious and had me laughing out loud! "So another successful test."
@SeanBZA7 жыл бұрын
Well, better the test and it not melting the polystyrene cup this time, at least John did remember to use a scrap disposable worktop to do the test, right next to the round filing cabinet as well, with plenty of sawdust to absorb the spills as well.

I've just watched a Clickspring vidjeo and it was pristine as always, it felt good. So this was next and it felt amazing, you know, I love when things go horribly wrong at the start and end up looking just like a piece of art. I know i'm comparing the so fabled 2000 year old computer with a humble kitchen knife, but we can argue that a knife is indeed more important to the mankind than a fancy calendar.

Oh my, this looks awesome... Would love to have some of these in my kitchen as well... The only thing that kind of bothers me is the 6 wires at the behind around 9:46, instead of the 7 in the front (which I think just looks nicer and more symmetrical). Great work!

It came out great! That moment when you tossed the resins and plywood into the trash while your hands were covered is exactly something that I just did 20 minutes ago! Except I was attempting to make bread and I was mixing the flour with milk and the other ingredients in a big bowl and I decided to start mixing with my fingers and my fingers became engulfed in the gooey mixture and everything I touched was getting covered and flour was everywhere and the sink was getting gummed up and in a moment of rage I tossed the 5 lb bag of flour, the bowl, the utensils and the mixing board all into a giant black contractor bag and then just started to wash the goo off my hands and forget about the whole endeavor.

Build article: www.ibuildit.ca/other%20projects/epoxy-grout-knife-handle.html This epoxy grout is a great material for a knife handle as far as strength, toughness and durability go. And it can be molded around the blade tang, if used before it sets, eliminating a lot of the more difficult shaping. It is expensive, though - $120 per gallon. I messed up a bit on the copper wire pins - the second one only has 5 wires instead of 6. Happens when you are juggling the project and the camera to capture the action.
