Gave me pause for thought at the beginning; my sister had the plastic one and all the trays were different dimensions and the plastic hooks that 'interlocked' to hold it together started to snap off, then the strapping started to peel away. You nailed it though, Neil. I should never have doubted!

I'm no carpenter myself, but when I was doing manual labour on construction sites, I learned a few tricks. To help with the mismatched hole fill colour, wait for the putty to mostly set, but before it dries, sand over it. This way the putty picks up some of the danding dust and the colours match a lot better.

For those who want to make this, but don't have a thin saw, all you have to do to stay in spec is pick 2 opposed sides of the octagon and lengthen those by the width of the saw cut. That way, when you cut with your saw, whatever saw it may be, you'll have an octagon.
