Looks like the 16oz veg tan I've got. Was labelled as "shield" leather hahaha, I made a couple vambraces out of it and it was a real pain to work with. The stuff is great though, those vambraces would probably stop a knife or even machete hit with how tough and thick they are.

I think I had to use a combination of a leather awl, a nail, a mallet and a wood board to punch the holes for stitching and lacing on mine. Think I soaked it for the bigger holes as well.

How much is a roll of that leather
@ChristiDea Жыл бұрын
Oh goodness, I can't recall. I bought it a few years ago, but I believe it was under $100 for sure. I get a military discount from the leather store, so that helps. There are different grades of shoe leather. The longer it is cured the harder it is and more expensive it is. You could make so much stuff from all that lealther. It's basically one entire hide

Would Tin snips cut it better?

Hi, pls can you help me get this material ? How much does it cost?
@ChristiDea4 жыл бұрын
I bought the leather at Tandy Leather Co. here in the U.S. Prices on leather are dependent on how long it was aged and any defects in the piece.

How did they turn out?
@ChristiDea6 жыл бұрын
They turned out great, though in retrospect I kind of wish I made them a bit bitter to accommodate the thickness of the wool (I"m going to attach them to wet felted boots). But all in all they are very cool. I've just finished dying a ton of alpaca and I'm going to attempt to make the boots out of 100% alpaca, then attach the soles

Hi Christi. I so appreciate the knowledge you're sharing with us, especially when woven in (see what I did there ! ;-) ) with your passion and sense of humour. The only thing is that in this video the focus is off and blurry for a large part of it. Fortunately it wasn't that critical, but in a few of your other videos its been slightly out of focus at times and I've missed the smaller details. I don't want to seem like an ungrateful, armchair critic because I love what you do.

Got it. I think I can fix this by turning off the auto focus on the camera. That happens I've noticed if I move or if the camera moves...the camera struggles to refocus on the central object. I'll work on that. Thanks PebbleInMyPocket, sometimes I just get excited about what I'm doing and grab a camera (as in this case). I was actually doing a "Live Stream" thing on my phone on this one (a new feature KZbin opened up on my channel). I hadn't tried it until this one time, but now I'll be extra careful to check the phone's settings before I film.

hi, thanks for sharing this. how tick is your sole leather and what type of leather is that?
@ChristiDea6 жыл бұрын
It's cow hide, sold from Tandy Leather in the sheet as "shoe sole leather". It's 6 millimeters thick. I later found out that it's much easier to cut when it's wet
@robertsherman99753 жыл бұрын
Also easier to cut with a regular X-acto blade. Veg tan leather dulls blades very quickly, the thicker the lather, the quicker the blade dulls. It is what it is !

I'm sorry, I don't understand your comment. Bad translation? If you are asking where I bought the leather sheet, then the answer is Tandy Leather here in the U.S.A.
