Coachella Valley is scented with sandalwood and the citrus scents of the Coachella valley. The color tutorial is a demonstration of subtly altering the primary colors of red, yellow and blue to get a different effect than usual.

Amber Jones I do love soap making. I love doing just about anything that is creative. What I love about the soap making art is that it appeals to so many of the senses: the look, feel and scent. I'm also so intrigued that the design and swirls and soap is not only on the surface, but potentially throughout the whole bar. Thanks Amber for commenting!

I'm so impressed and inspired! I've only been soaping for about a month and I tried one of your in the pots swirls. unfortunately, it didn't work as everything mixed together, ending with a lot of brown. I think I overcompensated, fearing everything would reach thick trace too early. I will keep trying! thanks so much for such inspiring soaps!

Fun. Yesterday "Be Kind to One Another" statement in your Tuesday video day was so sweet - - -. I'm still watching this one and Thank you for the color wheel sharing, the size/amount of color planned in advance information/ideas. I see how too much of one or the other creates "A mess" in soaps I've seen and now I understand the why. I'm not a painter but very visual learner - -and/or attracted by visual design. Oh so my reason to comment is to tell you to go to Diaso Store - -it is a japanese dollar tree type store - -they have the best small spatula for cleaning out those small dye pots, soap pots and tiny whisks and oh tiny molds and cutting mats - -I'm not sure if they are on line but hope you can visit a store someday - -There are two in Seattle area so I'm thinking somewhere in California there are a few - -good quality items too. ok back to my video watching

Thanks for your comment! I have already discovered the Diaso stores. My parents and brother live in a large Japanese community, so I frequent those stores. I've also found a comparable store in San Diego. :)

Your Coachella Valley soap is absolutely my favorite of all your beautiful soaps! I've been trying to imitate it but with little success so far. I'll keep trying, I promise! )) I'd appreciate a lot if you let me know whether you gel your colourful soaps or not, and what kind of colorants you are using. I've tried pigments, micas and, more recently, Swiss color pastes, and I found none of them fully reliable, as they tend to change (gel or no gel), sometimes greatly (like green into blue, for exampe). Thanks so much!
@vibranttravelswithClyde
@vibranttravelswithClyde 9 жыл бұрын
+Alhambra M Thank you! Well, I use micas and I usually do gel my soaps.Do you mix your soap batter to emulsification or until trace? I usually just get mine to emulsification to maintain fluidity.

Good observation of the Native design colors - -I really love the colors used by Southwest - -New Mexico, Arizona, Hopi, Arapaho - - -beautiful blues, clay oranges - -They all used what was local in nature for the color and copy of the nature surrounding them - -look up fancy dancers for amazing color combo's in beads and feathers - -if you wish - -Alaska indigenous use green, purples, yellow, black, red - -did you know gall bladder of fish make green color ? - -

Hi Donna, I have a really special secret about hydrosols- I find them on the internet already made. :) My good friend Maren who I taught my soap workshop through, gave it to me since she is no longer making soapy products. Yes, I think in addition to the fragrance oil, it added a fuller scent to the soap.

Your soaps are beautiful. I enjoy listening to your thought process with the color and design concept. Do you have any issues with the deep colors in the lather? If not , how do you know how much of a saturation in color do you stop at. Im a new soaper. On a random note;as an interior designer I noticed I think; some interesting chairs in the background? Are they custom?
@vibranttravelswithClyde
@vibranttravelswithClyde 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the chairs were custom. I don't have too much trouble with colors in the lather. I do like strong colors, but I usually only use highly saturated colors in portions of the soap. Sorry it took me 5 years to respond! Sometimes these comments hide!
@alhambram6094
@alhambram6094 9 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your reply, Clyde! I also find micas (mixed in glycerine -- is it how you do it too?) more reliable on the whole, but, alas, only relatively so. The Swiss colour pastes, which are my latest discovery, are quite vibrant but they fade somewhat too, both in gelled and non-gelled soaps. To answer your question -- I try not to go beyond emulsification when I am going to use different colors and swirl, but I often miss the 'point of no return' and end up with trace. That's because at the emulsification stage the soap still seems too runny -- and then suddenly it gets almost too thick! I guess it takes more practice to get the knack of it (I've been soaping for nearly two years, but I've started experimenting with serious swirling fairly recently -- with your soaps serving as one of my inspiration sources). Do you use essential oils or fragrance oils for scenting? Many thanks again!
@vibranttravelswithClyde
@vibranttravelswithClyde 9 жыл бұрын
+Alhambra M Hi. I use moth fragrance oils and essential oils. I usually mix my micas in some of the batch oils but I have also used glycerin. With practice I know you'll get a better sense of the emulsification vs trace. It also varies from recipe to recipe. I know you also know that some fragrance oils and essential oils speed up or slow down trace. Have fun!
