My biggest tip for the splits is to HOLD your stretches for a good amount of time so your muscles can truly relax into it - I am talking at least two-three minutes per stretch - and my next tip is to not give up, I stretched every day for around a year to finally get there but now I can sit in my splits for hours and not feel anything because my body is so comfortable with the position. So like with anything, consistency is key!

Your hamstrings are inflexible, that's where you're struggling with stretches the most. Your hips are generally fine. In your lunges, make sure to straighten your back knee. I dance, and increasing my hamstring flexibility helped the most with splits. I recommend doing some yoga for it, the downward dogs are a lifesaver!
@bluerayblair5224 жыл бұрын
Is it actually doable if learn to do them as an adult? I had this belief that if you didn’t learn the split when you’re younger or have done gymnastics you could never do them and I don’t know where that belief originated from lol 😂

@@bluerayblair522 you can learn as an adult, it's just easier to learn as a child
@Lydia-th5jh4 жыл бұрын
@@bluerayblair522 You definitely can! I started dancing when I was 16, and I got my right side splits around 18. I stopped dancing for a bit, lost my splits, and regained them around age 20. I dance with adults and a lot of them gained flexibility later in life. It's a lot easier when you're younger, but with persistence, it's totally doable at an older age.

“...I want to learn to do the splits...” This made me do a spit take. I have a long running joke with one of my sisters. The jist of it is “I COULD do the splits right now if I weren’t wearing these jeans...” Over the years it has morphed into seeing acrobats, dancers, contortionists and saying to one another, “I could do that..” I guess what I’m saying is that there is no need to learn how to actually DO the splits when you could just SAY you can. Lol...

tips for splits from a competitive dancer of 11 years and counting; - make sure your body is warm before you start to stretch, eg go for your walk first. this will help your blood to pump around your body and warm up and prevent any injuries from happening. - anna mcnulty get the splits fast is a god save and i teach my students this routine in their flexibility class. - when you stretch ensure you are challenging yourself, however not injuring your body. eg, pushing your lunge so you can feel the stretch working. - really focus on the hamstrings and hip flexors! when i get new students this is normally what needs to become more flexible when attempting to get here splits. - make sure your hips are square, this is probably one of the main reasons why people cannot get the splits. they are using using the wrong muscles and making the wrong shape. to achieve this when in your splits put your opposite hand on your leg and the your other hand on your opposite leg. so you are somewhat twisted, this will help you square your hips. YOU GOT THIS GRACE! PERSISTENCE AND ROUTINE IS VERY IMPORTANT, I BELIEVE IN YOU!!

for getting your splits I recommend the 14 day splits challenge video by the channel Boho Beautiful ! breath-work in combination with the right stretches (and repetition - stretch everyday!) is a really important part in getting your splits and the boho beautiful channel is great at this ! I’m a dancer and already had my left and right splits but was forever struggling with getting my middle one, and that video helped me so so much! also tip - when you’re in a lunge keep your knee right over your ankle for proper form, and I recommend being careful about not putting too much pressure on your knees in stretches like that because it could cause dislocations and in being a bit thinner you’re more prone to dislocations. best of luck !

I'd HIGHLY recommend the 15 minute stretch video from Alo Yoga (from Kylan Fischer), it's really calming and peaceful. And it's super easy to modify to how flexible you are, starting off I could barely hold any of the stretches and now it's like no problem! GOOD LUCK ON YOUR SPLITS, YOU CAN GET THERE!!!!

getting the splits tips!!! : really stretch ALL the muscles in your legs, not just your hip flexors and hamstrings. stretching your thighs thouroughly is also really important, even the it band and the glutes can make a massive difference. maybe try stretches where you stretch your legs separately, i find that i can go much lower in pike with one knee bent in, than with both feet stretched out in front of me, but maybe thats just a personal thing. also take your time stretching, and hold the stretches for long enough. people say 0 sec minimum, i always do at least a minute. i also find yin yoga (where you hold a position for a longer time, usually like 2-5 minutes) really relaxing and it def makes you much more flexible.
