man alive. the nhs is a riot - i love it, but i haven't heard a single woman say that they had a straightforward birth story lately. it's such a shame that women are forced to "wait" for staff when we can't really do anything about the pace of labour. i hope midwives are treated better asap so we can get more of them. they are beautiful souls. I'm glad it all went okay for you in the end. and congrats on having a huge placenta! i'd be proud of that fact lol x
@NatalieAbb26 күн бұрын
Not sure how recently you classify as lately but my daughter is 2.5 and I had a straightforward one as far as the hospital is concerned. I had odd bits that took longer but that was cos of my body not to do with the staffing. They followed my birth plan to the letter, even questioning when I asked them to do something that went against it to make sure I understood. I had a midwife and a student throughout plus at one point needed a head midwife and a doctor. Water birth. Home within 6 hours :)
@oliviashale565325 күн бұрын
the lack of staffing has reached a new level, and it's not only unsafe, but very stressful for the workers themselves - as it effects how well they can do their job - and they are in this job to help people, but the state of things at the moment is making that difficult. i work as an early childhood educator (kindy teacher/childcare) in australia, and i always compare the education industry to nursing - as we are in a similar situation, and we are all at breaking point. i hope that things get better for everyone, and that they hang in there. 💛 nurses are absolute stars, and deserve to be cared about too (by their workplace).

Wow, this really brings back the memories! (My wife had three.) I've heard it said that if men gave birth the species would have died out ages ago. Your video reinforces the truth behind that. You're very brave to relive this. Kudos to Mr. Grack and congratulations on your new life!

I can’t believe the nurses told you to get it under control I would of been so annoyed! But Mr Grack sounds like such a good man helping you out. But also so good you got the birth you wanted in a way, like in the bath. Thank you for sharing I know it’s such a private thing but really appreciate hearing your story!
@abbiemcgregor99329 күн бұрын
My midwife said a very similar thing to me when I shouted once during labour and it was actually enough for me to stop and channel my energy into pushing rather than shouting and it really helped me. I found that approach helpful but can see that not everyone would appreciate being told that.
@Starshine_9929 күн бұрын
But it's also true, you lose massive energy yelling and giving birth takes every ounce of energy you have. You save loads of energy by trying to breathe instead of screaming. Lots of Mums realized the same while in labour.

I love birth stories! I'm glad all went well and that you kept an open mind. I know of two people out of everyone I know whose birth went exactly to plan. These things don't always! I ended up having an emergency c section which sounds scary but it was incredibly magical. I was awake, my husband was there, the lights were dipped low and we were just chatting to the staff during the procedure as if we had just gone for a cuppa. It was all very relaxed and I couldn't have wished for anything else. Then my baby was born and she was and is the most perfect being I have ever seen in my life. She's just about to turn 2 and she's just so sweet and kind! I feel very blessed!

It really does help to talk about your birth experience to help process all the feelings you go through. Best wishes to you, Dad & baby.

Congratulations, Grace! I don't think anyone has like a wonderful birth story but we all take it in stride! With my second, I had a pre-labour emergency c-section, I was told there was something really wrong with him but they didn't know what, that he would go to the NICU and that they didn't know for how long, that the biggest thing they were hoping for was that he was going to come out alive. You can only imagine the stress! Especially that my first was also premature and was in NICU for 6 weeks. Turns out his umbilical cord was knotted and hadn't fed through the placenta for a month. He was very skinny but he was fine! Oh and my first was measuring small and turns out she was way bigger than they had predicted. The growth charts are complete lies!

When you said about standing being cleaned up after it took me back. I had an emergency C-section, I was numb up to my chest when two little old women wandered in navy tracksuits. They bathed me whilst telling me what a great job I had done and everything would be ok. To this day I'm convinced they were hospital volunteers or visitors who take the library cart around. Quite frankly anyone could have wandered in at that moment. But they were very kind.

The way I grinned when I saw this thumbnail - I feel like a very proud Aunty 💕 You did amazingly Grace! Re: birth stories, my first baby arrived 11 days late, took 94 hours between first contraction and him finally being out, and ended up being 9lb 12oz and super long (I’m only 5’ 2 on my tippy toes, so he was BIIIIIIIIIIG). He got himself a bit stuck as he tried to exit as he was presenting with the back of his neck, instead of the top of his head; so after all that time, he eventually came out his emergency c-section. It was a whole ordeal, but he is amazing and totally worth every second (he’s nearly 10 now, but I honestly don’t know where that time has gone 😮) Second baby took less than 6 hours from first contraction to having her in my arms. She caused all sorts of damage down there as she zoomed out (4th degree tears 😭), but again, totally worth every stitch 💕. She was pretty average in length, but still weighed 9lb 9oz 😳. Baby #3 was a planned c-section as I didn’t want any more trauma lol. She did attempt to come the day before, mind you; but she wound up being the smallest and dinkiest of all of my kids. Still 9lb 3.5oz, but very curled up and cute 💕. Long story short: apparently my body is good at growing big babies in my belly 🤪

My baby is 14 weeks and have lived going through pregnancy and motherhood with you. We've had one hell of a ride with our feeding journey. No one warns you how hard breastfeeding can be. I would love if you could share your feeding story so I don't feel alone ( all the other mums I've met seem to be bottle feeding)❤
@jmb2202Ай бұрын
It is hard. Second time around is easier. The thing is that I found though is that breastfeeding is not really supported. Especially in the hospital If you are not saying that you want it and stand on that they have you feeding formula in a moment. With breastfeeding you need to be determined and have good support and know how it works. It is so rewarding but also heavy. But also so easy you never can give to much always have it with you. When they are sick you can give extra. And its always perfect for your child. I just stopped after almost 2 years.
@clojo368241Ай бұрын
@ I go to a feeding group twice a week. I don't know where I'd be without them. I constantly think how much easier it would be to formula feed but feel too attached to breastfeeding to give it up. I think I'll be very sad the day she isn't feeding from me anymore 🥲

I can’t believe I’m hearing your birth story. This feels so grown up. I had the option to labor in the water but I was so sweaty I knew the water would get me overheated too fast. Plus I really wanted to move around the room. Pretty much same exact birth as you. Baby was sideways so I had sooo much back pain. Went for the epidural but dilated to 10 before they could get me set up 😂. The epidural dulled the back pain though (for me it was like someone squeezing my spinal cord. Very fun) but kept the other pains, which felt fine compared to the back pain. They had to use the vacuum because baby’s head did the same thing as Tiny’s, just going in and out and apparently she was stuck on my tailbone 😂 Also had to stay an extra night at the hospital because I had my baby at 11 pm. My hospital bill would have been so much less if they just allowed me to leave the next day, but they have a 24 hour rule at my hospital. My oldest had a great time having multiple sleepovers with our friends who were watching her for two nights lollll Thanks for sharing your birth story!!

Thank you for sharing your birth story. That was a ride for sure! I am curious about epidurals as in the US many women have them. I've never heard of anyone having gas for laboring. In my experience gas is used at the dentist for some but not at the hospital. That's so interesting!

My first baby ( a girl) was born on her due date! She's always been very organised and I feel like this was the first example. I now have 5 children - by then you'll be an absolute pro Grace!

Been waiting for this one …I’m currently 29 weeks pregnant and have gathered all the snacks and juice to watch on the couch 🤣🤩
