hi dear cud u explain me y are those fins kind of things necessary to be fixed at the end of the arrow..??
@TheIdahoanShow9 жыл бұрын
+RICHARD CROWN The fletching veins stabilize the arrow in flight.
@dardyjosho6 жыл бұрын
The fletching add drag to the back end of the arrow, therefore stopping the back end buckling around or flipping.

when installed correctly they also provide rotation to the arrow shaft in flight similar to the affect riffling has on a bullet when shot for accuracy.

the funny part of all the text below the video is that it talks about arrows being dangerous, but in firearm videos (homemade) they don't say anything.

hi! Nice info, what is the material of the shafts ?
@TheIdahoanShow8 жыл бұрын
I just used commercial-grade aluminum bar stock (most likely 6061-T6, although the alloy wasn't explicitly marked or otherwise specified).

TheIdahoanShow thanks you so much (sorry for my English) im from Argentina and there, every thing in relation with archery have a big price... and... another dude, the aluminium shaft is solid? (maybe U think im stupid lol, sorry and ty so much for the help)
@TheIdahoanShow8 жыл бұрын
No problem. Yes, I used a solid 1/4-inch aluminum rod (equivalent to 6 mm or 6.5 mm diameter, if you're working under the metric system) for the shaft. A solid shaft makes a relatively heavy arrow, which is good for bow-fishing because the drag forces on the arrow are much higher in water than in air, and so it doesn't lose as much energy to drag as it is traveling through the water to the target. For arrows that are not used for fishing, hollow shafts are better because drag is less of an issue in air, and the lighter shaft allows a higher velocity and thus will not drop as much when shooting at longer ranges. For fishing arrows, the range is usually too short for drop to be an issue.

TheIdahoanShow perfect, ty so much, and i find an aluminium shaft of 3/8" and 1mm or 1,5mm. i Will try both for a normal arrow. and i Will buy the solid bar for the fishing arrow :) !

I know this is an old video but for viewers I wanted to make sure people weren't making this mistake. Dude your video shows how to make an arrow out of your chosen materials very well BUT A FISHING ARROW SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY FLETCHING!!!!!! Its for fishing therefore feathers (which I use) and any other types once they hit the water will throw off the shot completely! A fishing arrow is made without it for this very reason! Your shooting short distance so you don't need extra help in aiming and again once it hits the water your shot will be off so DON'T FLETCH IT!!!!!! Just a shaft and the tip!!!!!! Otherwise your video was helpful.

Metal lathe $1,000 + tapping wrench $50 + tapping bits $50 + tig welder $700 + 12 foot aluminum bar stock $25 !!! Pretty expensive diy project don't ya think? Comon now
@TheIdahoanShow3 жыл бұрын
Depends on your perspective, and on where you get your materials. The aluminum bar stock was closer to $2.50 than $25, and I already had the tools, so from my perspective these arrows were pretty cheap.
