Today i Wanted to Making A Video Just Solely About My Ash Lye Solution.
I do This Using My 4 Litre Pot.
I Fill my Pot with 1/3 Ash from hardwood and charcoal the un burnt black leftover charred wood in my Fire Place. i Started with a 1/2 and 1/2 ratio to make my 1/3 Ash total then add Rain Water to Fill the Pot. I Hope This Makes Sense. i did 3 Pots. i Used More White Ash in the 2nd Batch than Charcoal Just to see if this would make a Stronger Lye Solution Mix. So by all mean Experiment Friends. There is No Hard and Fast Rules here. I Then Brought my Solution to a Boil. Then Simmered it For Roughly 35 mins. you Can Do 40 mins. I Stirred the Ash every 4-5 mins. Then We Let our Solution Sit For 4-5 days. Then Strain Off the Charcoal and Ash. What is Left is Our Soaking Sllution for Amadou / Cattail Fluff / Punkwood etc If Anyone Has something Better. Any Ideas, Advice. Please Feel Free to Share in My Comment Section. I Hope This Helps People who cannot access Salt Peter to Nitrate there Flint and Steel Ignition Materials. Keep it Burning Whanau! 😝👊💥💥💥♨️♨️♨️🔥🔥🔥🪨🪨🪨😎🤘🌏🌏🌏🥝🥝🥝🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🌿🌿🌿💯💯💯

Nice. I didn’t know you used charcoal as well. I thought it was just the fine ash. Thanks for the tutorial 👍👍

Thanks for sharing Jason. I do have a question about using hard wood. Does softer wood work but just not as strong a solution or does it not work at all?

I have No Idea Geof. Great Question Brother.I am Just Putting Together Basic Principles i Have Seen From The Bushcraft and Survival Community.Trying To Refine A More Consistent Method For Better Reactivity. You could Try and Experiment. Who Knows You Might Come Up With Something New! Out of the Box So to Speak.🤔🤔🤔 But I Believe The Majority Advocate For Hardwood Ash. I am Sorry i Couldn't Give You A More Definitive Answer. Again Great Question. Try Both.

That is an excellent tutorial mate. I am going to follow this, I've bought all the stuff, and have the materials and gear ready. I love your idea of doing it economically but that isn't me.
