A tip to get the grease off your hand, canola oil. I know it sounds backwards but seriously pour some in your hands work it around a rinse with warm water. You can use soap after but I find it's not need if the water is warm enough. Great video today.

I use S7 for punches and dies, I would have though however that H13 would work better for the hot work you guys do.
@mossyhollow3732
@mossyhollow3732 3 жыл бұрын
H13 and S7 are so similar in composition and performance that us hammer swingers will never be able to tell. S7 is usually a little easy to find and less expensive from my experience.

Can you make a tungsten axe? would be so cool spliting giant logs with a small axe...
@mossyhollow3732
@mossyhollow3732 3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't forge. Usually pressed into shape from a powder. It would be crazy expensive. You could carbidize just the cutting edge though.
@yaykruser
@yaykruser 3 жыл бұрын
@@mossyhollow3732 Yeah, thats not my goal, I want the desity, just imagine seeing someone split a giant log with a mini axe.. What about these tungsten alloys they make the cubes out of? Demolition rach and taofledermaus shot one and it doesnt seem sintered or at least not brittle.
@mossyhollow3732
@mossyhollow3732 3 жыл бұрын
@@yaykruser I said you could make one but it would be really expensive. For an ax about the size of Tim's it would be about $3-4k. If you make the Ax of Thor you better make a video 🪓😎

Just a suggestion.. Could you not have just turned the punch 180° and it would not be so close to the back of the upsetter? Also, with the dyes (not sure how to spell the correct way) as well and just go in the opposite order?

@@TimothyDyck thanks! I forgot these were outside my budget a bit. I’m totally sure they’re worth it, I’m just a bit to broke to justify an axe..I realistically have no use for. Now a machete, that might be more my speed. Ever plan on doing some of those?

I’m watching this at the breakfast table. When you said you were making a drift, my sleep addled brain concluded you you were making the handle wedge. My confusion when you cut a large piece of S7 to make a little wedge was amusing. It took a couple of minutes for my brain to catch up. 😃 I’m really enjoying this series, keep it up!

It’s probably time… no, it’s DEFINITELY time to either repair or replace that vice! Every video you have to tighten the vice countless times and I’m sure that during the process of grinding it causes unwanted movement.
