I've been loving these weekly OWLs vlogs! I've been aiming for Magizoologist, so I had to do Charms (for which I read A Little Life), Potions (which I listened to Emergency Skin), Herbology (which I read Motherhood), and Care of Magical Creatures (which I read Cresecent City #1)! I then did Dragon Tamer and read Eragon, and also took Histoy of Magic (A Wizard of Earthsea), Astronomy (Middlemarch), and finally Defence Against the Dark Arts (The Water Cure)! I think I enjoyed Middlemarch, Cresent City and Emergency Skin the best!🙌 Congrats on finishing 11, that's amazing!

Fellow Ravenclaw! I chose to go for Hogwarts professor and I finished up at 11:54 last night 😬 reading If It Bleeds. I read Practical Magic as well, but I loved it. I think it's the atmosphere of the book that made reading it so enjoyable for me.

I only completed 6 prompts, but I got the 5 for the career I was aiming for which was Auror. Reading for Hufflepuff. Represent! I don't give star ratings, but I will attempt succinct reviews of all the books. I read... CHARMS (white cover) - 'The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly' by Sun-Mi Hwang - Dreamy and delightful and kind of hearthbreaking but very sweet. DADA (set at sea/on the coast) - 'The Life of Pi' by Yann Martel - A bit slow in the middle, but the last 100 pages or so were so strange and interesting I feel it was worth it. About 6 years ago a friend of mind told me to read it, I can finally tell him I did! HERBOLOGY (title starting with M) - 'My Sister, the Seriel Killer' by Oyinkan Braithwaite - Unexpectedly funny, I enjoyed it a lot. POTIONS (under 150 pages) - 'Crow' by Ted Hughes - I don't have much of a frame of reference poetry-wise, but I thought it was interesting TRANSFIGURATION (shapeshifting) - 'The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle' by Stuart Turton - My least favourite of the books I read. I felt like the author was counting on the fast pace to stop you questioning plot holes. It didn't work. And the reveal was not worth the page count. HISTORY OF MAGIC (witches/wizards) - 'The Witches' by Roald Dahl - Just as creepy as it was when I read it as a child. I love a children's book that doesn't end with everything being fixed. A bit problematic thematically though, some elements have not aged well. But it was fun to revisit! I've enjoyed your reading vlogs! Your lockdown looks more interesting than my lockdown. For a start, I'm in a city. And I don't have any dogs.
@DrinkingByMyShelf4 жыл бұрын
I loved My Sister the Serial Killer too! And also wasn’t a big fan of Evelyn Hardcastle

I went for Auror and read Murder on the Orient Express (Herbology), The Cruel Prince (Charms), Heartless by Marissa Meyer (Transfiguration), The Tea Dragon Society #1 (Potions), and Prisoner of Azkaban (DADA). Several of my books could actually qualify for a few different prompts so I wonder if I can be flexible with my NEWT options or if I have to stick with how I assigned the books on the Google form for the OWLs? Good job getting 11 done! 👏🏻

I made bad reading choices for my OWLs - except for Arithmancy. That was unexpected. 4⭐ for the only book that came from a genre I don't normally like. There was one other book that went on great for some time, only to fail "gloriously" towards the end. Such a disappointment. I really need to pick books more wisely for my NEWTs.

Because I live in Japan, it was so weird seeing you go into town without a mask, and people who went by the car also didn't have masks. My brain was like "yo, that's not allowed" but I remembered masks aren't common in England xD
@DrinkingByMyShelf4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's weird that we're still not being encouraged to wear masks here actually. Luckily we're so remote here that I don't feel too worried about it as I rarely ever see anyone when we're walking around (and didn't get out of the car in town), but if we were still in London I would definitely want a mask!
