Good bushcraft device and technology for birch/pine oil and tar extraction. I now take a multi-purpose 2-3 quart/liter (lightweight) stainless pressure cooker/canner for all my cooking (etc.) needs, and leave a ton of gear at home. Use pressurized cooker with lower-/higher-raised wire racks ... and a catchment cup/dish on the lower rack. Can use as a wire-rack-only hot dry air convection pressure-baking, ... or have small DRY! pebbles on the container bottom under the lower wire rack, for increased hot-rocking heat extraction. Can use with water below, or with pebbles and water for increased hot-rocking heat and steam extraction. Either way (eventually steam-dry the product) can eventually also make char/charcoal of the baked wood/bark for fire fuel. Place container in the gray coals. Extracted oil/tars fall into cup/dish, away from burning heat, as an all-clean pressure-extraction method. Excess wood alcohol (toxic methanol and flammable gasses) come out of pressure cap hole. Nice, neat, safe, and clean technology. If really needed, have a copper tubing come from the pressure cap hole, cool down (like an ethanol boot legger), and you have methanol as a wilderness fuel for vehicles. If you truly process the char/charcoal into potash (potassium wood ash powder), then you have the starting ingredients for basic black powder. ... Or ground into activated charcoal for water filtration. Char/charcoal fire fuel, activated charcoal water filtration powder, black powder explosive, oil/tar medicine, and methanol fuel.

I have never seen it done in such large scale, that was nice to see, way more then just using the paint can as your bark container. Thanks and nice vid.
