FYI -- aboriginal Canadian birch-bark canoes routinely used birch pitch as waterproofing. See also: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKLQeaSofddrrsk My own local culture relied heavily on both birch and spruce pitch or tar. Tar + hemp rope (or teased hemp fibers) is called Oakum (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakum ). Hemp ropes treated with pitch might be expected to last nearly indefinitely, and was the cordage of choice for hundreds of years, on the oceans of the world. Steel cables replaced it.

Punch the Hole in the Can Bottom /from the Inside out. Tighten the Lip on Top completely and put a Heavy Rock or Brick on Top of the Can. The liquid will drip out the Bottom Hole into the Can below it.

Can the oil be used to treat wood with a waterproof seal?

I don't see why not. But if the wood gets scraped deeply, it could lose its water proofing in the spot. But a fresh coating would make a seal again
