A bit of fun having a look at my very first bouquet 3 years ago and comparing that to how my bouquets look now. Ive learnt a lot of skills over the past 3 years. Ive changed how I wrap a bouquet of flowers, how I spiral stems, I've practiced colour theory and take notice of air and space in an arrangement. Thankyou to Slavica for this video idea!

For me, if I am making a bouquet using yellow sunflowers, I pair it with darker flowers to tone down the yellow. White does the opposite, it makes the yellow scream. That's an interior design trick, Many people don't know how to pair their favourite decor colour of yellow with something that works. For example, the number of people that have painted their bathroom yellow and then hated it. It's because of the white sink, tub, toilet, trim, ceiling, light switches, etc. A deep, dark red dinnerplate dahlia, such as Kenora Mac B or Spartacus looks awesome with smaller yellow sunflowers. Then, instead of having a couple of white cosmos poking out the top, I would use pink cosmos - anything but white. On that same note, red sunflowers look great with yellow dahlias.

Thanks Evelyn!! I think I might like screaming yellow haha... I love putting yellow and white flowers together! I couldn't think of anything worse than a yellow bathroom though (well I can.. I like a peaceful bathroom so I can relax without any colour influence so I don't think I want any colours in there...). I hear what you are saying though!!

There are some stunning bouquets in your recap. I loved the black paper arrangement it was so dramatic and the Christmas one around the same time. You should be chuffed with what you have accomplished. What a good idea for a video!

You know Phaedra The Adult Education classes use to hold courses in different areas of Melbourne in floristry and I did quite a few classes with them in arranging, wrapping, wiring and so on. I learned a lot through them. I don’t think they do those classes anymore which is a pity because they were worth it knowledge and cost wise. I did all my daughters wedding flowers thanks to those courses. Well done you have made quite a excellent progress.

Hello! It would be great if they were still running, I think they would be very popular courses these days too!!

Super work Phaedra - it's been a steady but definite improvement. I won't have flowers for the market till December...I just do simple garden bouquets that people seem to like and I think it's because I'm not a florist that they like them !

Aargh! I’m too scared to send mine through! 😂 I am studying floristry and I would have to say that the more “rules” I am given to follow the more stifled my creativity becomes. I think following your instincts is always the best idea. I love your early style just as much as your evolved style because you’re a natural and very creative. ❤

This was a fun throw back, you guys have come a long way. With Halloween around the corner, that black paper sure would show off orange flowers. I remember those little posies too, I thought they were so pretty, glad she sold all of those. I think Sarah at bloom & gray makes the most beautiful bouquets. Fun idea too, sharing what we're all up too, sadly I don't have much to work with now.

No one really does Halloween here like they do in the US, im not sure halloween flowers would end sell (ive never seen anyone do it or any halloween themed flowers in stores) and its Spring here for halloween so the autumn colours aren't big sellers now either! The black and orange would look really good though!! has frost hit your garden now? does anything grow for you over winter?

@@phaedragardeness Darn, never considered the colors of autumn. It's gotten chilly at night, enough my impatience look very unhappy, a few other flowers still look nice. The rest is mostly dahlias blooming, one of those is so big, it looks like a shrub. Strange thing with that one, it's had tons on tons of buds, but they aren't blooming, I haven't a clue what's happening with it. Very disappointing, since I thought it was going to be glorious. It'll probably get lifted before it's looking lovely.

Hi Phaedra, Enjoyed watching your journey. I think it's fun to learn by trial and error. It keeps life interesting and creates individuality. And it's great to learn from others. I'll see if I can find a decent photo to send for a bouquet critique. Mine are all home grown under the Queensland sun😁

So many beautiful bouquets! Thanks for doing this video. Pineapple lily is such a cool one, could be fun to experimenting with that though maybe a bit of a niche taste. I reckon it would look great with other flowers that have similar colours like pale green and dark red, that match and balance the pineapple lily structurally...maybe pale green lilies with burgundy roses or peonies. Can't go past a bouquet of just sunflowers 🌻 Fun idea to critique sent in bouquets!

Thankyou!! Pineapple Lily is such an interesting flower, underrated I think!! I like it with pinks and burgundy. I tried to sell it as the feature flower and no takers. It’s probably not what people consider “pretty” im thinking?

What a great video! It has left me feeling like my bouquets need a lot of work but it’s my first year so plenty more practice ahead. I’d love a video or advice on how to make larger valued bouquets, I feel like I’m stuck in a loop of adding more and more flowers but then losing all the space and it just being overstuffed. Particularly hard with no focals at the moment.
