what a work of art! I've been thinking of making my own scales just because there is so little variety out there for the pre-made stuff. That, or specially made scales are expensive. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and technique.

Very cool video! I tried this method, but noticed that the silicone doesn't cure properly in the areas that are in contact with the modelers clay. I made the scales and let the clay dry, but when I poured the silicone, the areas in contact with the clay never really cured. Did you have similar issues?

Can you use the total boat epoxy to glue up the blade with the different layers of the handle?

No I would use a good quality 2 part epoxy like West Systems G Flex. You can get it on amazon

Looks awesome, I've seen alot of scales made from some form of resin and I think they look better than wood since so many looks can be achieved. What is the yellow paper that you used called and if it is paper doesn't it fall apart when it gets wet? Thx

Thank you. The yellow liners are from USA Knifemaker. Really nice to work with and no they will not fall apart if wet.

great work as always, just a quick question; I've been making some epoxy handles too and i noticed you also have the little white spots, is this just the micro bubbles that is left in the epoxy? I don't use a pressure pot and i'm thinking i need to invest in one to eliminate all the tiny bubbles that are left, just don't like the white spots that are left... especially in darker coloured scales.

Why did you chose this resin instead of alumilite

I do not have a pressure pot. This resin is very thin and has a long cure time. That allows any bubbles to rise to surface before it starts to harden. Bottom line it gets me good results without the use of a pressure pot
