Celery flakes/celery powder is an amazing addition to the spice cabinet. You can use this anywhere that you'd typically use fresh celery when cooking; particularly as a seasoning, or when making soups, stews, gravies, and casseroles.
Dehydrating celery is a very easy process, and it only takes a few moments to blend it into a powder after dehydration. This is an excellent food to start with for those who are new to the world of food dehydrating!

I'm planning on doing this with thinned onions from my raised beds

That's a great idea!!! I haven't tried to grow onions again in the past two years. I lost almost all of my 400 plants to some type of, I'm guessing bacterial rot? Man, the smell was awful! They were all planted in three spots quite far from each other, so I think the hefty amount of wild garlic may have had something to do with whatever pathogen it was that took them out... Speaking of which, I want to dehydrate a bunch of it next February! Thank you for dropping in, Mike. 😊

👍 I love dehydrating but I’m always unsure if my items are dry enough for storage

Thanks for dropping in, MeMe! I used to be that way too, and still can be at times 😊 the snap test is REALLY helpful, and over time I've gotten more confident as I've had my dehydrated goods last so long without spoilage successfully. I usually go off the deep end with the amount of time that I dehydrate stuff. But I'd rather be safe than sorry. The silica gel packets are super cheap and reusable, and they're a great form of "insurance" that'll help to absorb any lingering moisture. Four of the biggest tips are: no oily/greasy foods, cooling food for 1 hour after turning off the dehydrator, snap test after the cooling period, then placing the dried food into a mason jar and checking the jar for any signs of condensation on the inside of the glass within two days of storing. A final snap test after this storing period doesn't hurt, either! I'm a huge fan of freezing stuff- and I have a pressure canner I've never used because I'm scared to 😂 so I completely understand!

Great video, enjoyed learning about making dehydrated celery. I'm currently dehydrating basil from the garden. I just finished processing the last of my dill. I'm spending a lot of my time doing canning with tomatoes, peppers, beans and squash all coming in now. I should be getting the first harvest of okra next week. Keeping very busy and enjoying the rewards from the garden. Take care and as always, thanks for sharing the video.

Thank you so much!! I wish I'd have gotten my dill in, but it's just been so hot here this summer, and the drought... It's been a rough season. The dill would have given up on me! Still waiting on the basil, which was interplanted with my melons. We're getting squash in, tons of green tomatoes, lots of peppers forming... But that miserable 3 week heat wave we had caused a lot of dropped blossoms and fruit, only for drought to accompany and follow. We're heading into another heat wave, so I can't wait to see what kind of a tomato flush awaits once we've gotten past it. This is the first year I've had to actually water my garden 😂 I missed my opportunity to plant okra (boy I wish I had!) So I'll be missing that this year 😞 But that's okay, because there's always something to greatly enjoy in the garden every single year! 😊 thank you for dropping back by, and be sure to enjoy a little extra okra for me when it comes in! 😅
