Back then, my professor loved saying, "It's the archer, not the bow." That was the first and last thing I learned in film school.

Dude, Nigel…there’s not many channels with interesting enough content to be able to watch the videos all the way through yet I find myself endlessly surfing, your channel and re-watching videos. Keep doing what you’re doing Nigel📸

Literally the whole point of the video is not to wait until you have better gear like the s5ii.

Really ❤ your videos. New cinematographers always overthink. Your calm and easily explained videos will definitely give confidences to start new projects.

Great video man! Nice message, do what you have in mind with what you want have at hand. For me her angle in the interview shots felt kind weird, was it to make it feel like she's talking talking directly to the "client" in front of her? The last advice of the video is incredible! Sadly I see some people did not watch the original and only watched this with the cut ending before the advice. But it was a golden advice. Maybe his best one.

You shouldn't use that kind of modifier with a constant light because it traps heat and reflects it back at the light itself and there's no where for the heat to escape. It's a fire hazard and will cause premature failure/wear on the light. I had one of them start to catch on fire in my studio using a constant light.

You'd be right if I was using a hot light, the little ML60 runs cold and I've literally had it running all day at full power inside the Photec soft lighter without even a hint of a problem. I've been using this lighting set up for several years now and it still perfect.

I've been following for a few years, love your videos, please keep it up :) I also find myself not wanting to make content without the "perfect" piece of gear and i hate that feeling, was there a specific thing that changed your view? Also how are you liking the S5iiX? I ended up also going from the GH3 to the S5iiX but I still am just on the kit lens, will you be making some guides for it, I've been wanting to get into mini documentaries and have no idea how to start (both the production and just getting people to be in them hahahah) (Sorry for the ramble)

Yeah I've loved my S5IIX, for me its almost a little overkill for the type of youtube videos I make but I do love having all the features, I'm still figuring it out too but I'll be making more content on it for sure!

For the commenters going on about the cost of the gear in this video, check out the rest of Nigel’s content (and some of the links). Dude shoots so much of his content on his beloved GH3 and that Godox light/softlighter combo is less than 400 bucks.

Very true, just cause I shot it on an S5IIX doesn't mean I couldn't have done a similar job with a GH3!

um, I saw like one comment on the cost, maybe two. I get what his point is, but IMO using the term 'budget' especially in a sponsored video seems a bit disingenuous for non-professional viewers. But I'm sure opinions vary. Nice of you to come to his defense. Have a nice day.

Two things: 1. your wife is beaaaautttifulllllllll!!!! (you have excellent taste, man) 😊 2. I love the way you keep things simple, but yet produce very good results. It shows that the quality is much more important than the quantity.

I mean "budget" means something different to everyone, as I grow as a filmmaker I release that things get more and more expensive. I think most of the gear I used falls into the "reasonable budget" range. Thanks for watching!

Your lighting solution is an actual fire hazard. Other than that, great setup and it is amazing how much quality you pull out of your equipment.
