It's incredible how a camera with the specs of the GH5 was released back in 2017. Even today, cameras are being released with far fewer options for filmmakers. I own both the GH5 and GH5s, and I find them to be the perfect combo. I was offered a straight trade between the GH5s and the GH6, but I refused mainly due to the well-known streaking issues of the GH6 (never resolved), the lack of dual ISO, and the different dual card slots that force you to buy an expensive CFexpress card (if you want to have a backup)

thank you! I will probably make a video on my vintage lenses as soon as I get the kit completed! the other lenses I use on the S5IIX are the kit 20-60mm, sigma 28-70mm f2.8 and the 100mm macro

Got the same two bodies as a content/event videographer, as a two video system, the gh5 on a tripod for still shots and the s5iix as a run&gun setup with a gimbal. Great combo these two. Also got a gx80 for hobby outdoor traveling stuff. Cheers Nigel!

Hi Nigel... Maybe GH6 could be an option they are on crazy sale new...around 800-900 at least in switzerland...I think it is completly underdog with some strange stuff but really nice image the best of Panasonic exept S1H probably...

1:20 That’s because the GH5 sensor is 10bit linear meaning it can capture a maximum of 10 stops. Full VLog requires a 12bit linear sensor aka 12 stops to function well. Giving the GH5 full Vlog would be a disaster. You’d have such noisy and detail lacking shadows that would ruin the video encoding and cause blocky artifacts. It’s kind of like recording 32bit audio on a preamp that’s already noisy for 16bit. Why give extra bits to just static noise? Too bad the GH5s didn’t get full Vlog tho. It’s sensor is fully capable of handling it 🙃 panasonic fumbled big time

@@omaralcantara1142 gh6/7 match the gh5 Dynamic Range with DR Boost off and get two more stops with DR boost on matching the S5 & GH5s Dynamic Range. So they’re basically 10bit linear sensors with dual gain output netting them extra 2 stops I wouldn’t use the Vlog with DR boost off unless you want noisy shadows or clean shadows but clipped highlights

In IBIS comparision Sigma 2870? I sold this lens because it's perform worse than any other of my lenses. I tried two different copies on different bodies with same results.

I used the GH5 a lot and for a long time. Switched to S5 and then S5IIx then (in addition to Sony-Stuff). And even knowing how much Panasonic evolved ... there is still this "special something" with GH5-footage that always strikes me with excitement.

Really helpful; thanks, Nigel! As a G7 and G100 owner, I'm wondering if there's something between the GH5 and the S5IIx that stays in MFT, but has better autofocus than the GH5. On my G100 in particular, I'm not happy with the autofocus; even on still shots it's not great. Maybe the GH5, despite being older, is much better in that respect; would you know if that's true? Or maybe there's something in the Lumix MFT family that improves autofocus without making the format and cost jump of the S5. Anyone who can weigh in, please do. -Tom

Yeah if you wanna stay lumix the G9II or Gh7 are basically your only options, but the Olympus e-m1 II has the best AF I've ever used in a MFT system

I'm still shooting on my GH5... no crop, great stabilization and small lenses... I'd love a more modern smaller b cam that has modern autofocus for photographing my kid... but havent found it yet. Wast tempted by the S9, but its way too expensive an upgrade and i dont want to be split across lens systems

I am currently settled on a GH5s (10 m/sec readout speed) and a GH5ii as my video cameras (both bought Used)! For photography I am now (having sold the XT3 and several X mount lenses) using a Lumix S5 (paid £700 Sept 2024) and a Lumix S1R (paid £970 Dec 2024) and yes I’m mostly focusing manually! Oh and I have Tamron SP EF mount lenses that I adapt to both my video and photography cameras.
