That's what Meshuggah's Demiurge sounds like to me. An album full of rhythmically complex riffs and then you just get hit with something so normal it actually sounds more brutal

@@spoxx1802 - Lars played blackened just fine in the 80s and it’s full of 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 7/4, 13/4, and 5/8 changing constantly. Of course they played this all by feel, but it’s absurd to say he can’t play odd times.

I love it! That is to say, I hate all these riffs in 4/4 and it really makes me appreciate just how amazing DT at using complex rhythms to bring out the melodies in their best form. Great video!!

Since I pretty much know DT discography by heart at this point, this sounds more prog than the original. Except Metropolis Pt.1. This shit always tripped me up and here I'm like "finally, THIS is what it should have sounded like in the first place".

The funny thing is that what is already good is good also in 4/4 (or in 12/8 like Count of Tuscany), what instead is not cool isn’t good neither in 4/4 :-)

I don't actually know the originals, but the 4/4 versions all felt a little contrived, as if they had notes missing. Now I really want to hear the originals.

"Odd"/unusual time signatures doesn't automatically mean greater difficulty to play, because sometimes such a time signature just makes sense.

Images & words is a great starting point. Scenes from a Memory as well, maybe it's a bit harder to get into because of its length and strong concept

Yeah, just start with Images & Words. Soon enough you'll see yourself that no matter which of their songs you click next, there's a 90% chance it's just another masterpiece. Suddenly you've fallen in love. So just stay candid when going through some best of playlist or something.

Plenty to listen to then. Start with Images and Words and then get them all in chronological order. It all tells the story of an incredible band. The early years with Kevin on keys are superb as the bass is more audible giving a better listening experience. Imho.
