This fits in nicely with a project I've been asked to design I'll be modifying this idea slightly and using it. Thanks
@MyGarageWoodshop7 жыл бұрын
+arponto wow! Cool to hear! Quick tip.... I used a 45 degree angle on the "tails", but this was a mistake. My thought was that the "tails" would pinch toward each other as I hammered them down within their mortise. But this creates two problems (1) the angle turned out to be too closed and it was difficult to maneuver my chisel in the mortises especially in the corners. I managed to get a real tight and clean fit but it was difficult. (2) at 45 degrees the tail's triangles are a little fragile and don't have much strength UNTIL they are glued in place. I would definitely do this technique again if a had to, but I would increase the angle of the tails. I hope this helps

I absolutely love this idea. It started a major storm in my mind and gave me so many ideas from this technique. I’m making kitchen counters and have a sink in the corner. This is perfect for the arm rest portion. While I appreciate the simple and to the point video, could you please do a more in depth video explaining your thought process on this? I’m wanting to use it for additional applications. Pretty pretty please.

I like the corner brace but don't like to see miters on a frame that size. My guess is, despite the braces, the miters have opened up on the inside of the corner, particularly during the dry season. Would be better off with a rail and stile or mortise and tenon/ butt joint. Nice job on the brace though!

"Just saw this in my suggestions box, such a great idea! I initially though it was bracing for a picture frame (which in retrospect doesn't make sense, haha) but still a really cool way of stiffening up the base" Ha! Rad! the funny thing with this video is that it was all my deleted footage from the "making a cabinet base" video. in the end i thought, "oh well, its only two minutes, i'll just throw it up on youtube" not really expecting it to do well at all. it tuned out to be the most watched! still is! thanks Robin, glad you liked that little nugget of a video!
