This channel is the best secret in youtube. I love this channel as a watch geek.

thanks for the compliment :) I do wish it was a little less secret but it’s grown ok over time I suppose. 😆

I was floored when you flashed a waterslide sample with birds/carl. I see you met Maggie and she had you use my design. I hope she was more pleasant to you!

Were you the first person she tried to have make the watch (and wasn't happy with the progress/look)? She showed me a pic of the work from a previous attempt at making the watch, I said sure I'd take it on, wouldn't be too hard, and built it out. Maggie was pleasant with me the whole way through and loved the final result. She said the birds/Carl was originally from a family member's painting. I did have to essentially re-create the design though. I show the build process here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2asaqycprCgd68

I’m glad she found some decency! She was a friend of a friend and so I made a variation of one of my hand forged watches (The ExCB) and she was “completely blindsided” when it looked exactly like what we agreed on 🤷🏻♂️ it all worked out well in the end at least.

@@darkinsilence interesting context, and a small world in watchmaking. I do recall the case (pic) and hand forged makes sense of what I saw. I have no other info other than she tried a route, didn't work out, can I do the build, and I built it. Regardless, as you say, it worked out in the end and she was ecstatic with the final product.

Hey man, i know this is an old video, how about rotating the print a few degrees per layer when printing to combat the twizzler effect?
@WatchComplications Жыл бұрын
yeah exactly, I think I talked about it at some point in this video, if not then it's in one of my other videos, but yes, you can rotate the prints going to the printer and it would combat the rough edge issue

Brian, great watch and learn episode! Hope you can show what a third decal coat looks like. You don't have to show the process just the result.
@WatchComplications3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if I do any more layering I'd just show results. I need to test small decals on otherwise complete dials also. But I have a lot of other stuff in the pipeline to keep the variety going. It's what makes my channel different :)

This is a really interesting process you’re experimenting with! Cool stuff! Have you considered rotating the image 45 degrees before printing the second layer? Doing that may shift the aliasing to a different set of lines that may make the “twizzler effect” less apparent for all lines. Thinking this occurs due to the way the print head is presented to the transfer paper while printing. 🤷♂️

That's an amazing work around. I will try it!
@WatchComplications3 жыл бұрын
now that’s a clever idea! and I expect you are right, because it’s only lines at certain angles. I will add a third layer and give this a try. Thanks bud :)

Did I finally get it? The Mad Hatter's hat in Alice in Wonderland had a 10/6d price tag in the hat band.

Do you read these? I’m looking to do this much less detailed for one type of vintage watch. Maybe some advice? I’m an older guy so not computer savvy not sure how we’d talk. I’ll check back here. Thank you very much for your time. -Rick

I do read comments. What I recommend you do is watch the video where I test the decals on multiple surfaces so you would know what to expect given the surface of your vintage dial.
