A super easy method for dandelion root coffee. Its caffeine free, its fun to make, and dandelions are everywhere.

I made 3 lots 1. Didn’t cook long enough was very bitter and pale 2. Burnt few and left rest crispy tasted great 3. Burnt them all tasted exactly like coffee deep rich brown colour tasted amazing! The longer I cooked the better they tasted so glad I came across your video! I also made dandelion & lemon jam with the flowers and put the leaves in a green smoothie and left over petals I dried and made tea with it
Ahh! I wondered why my first batch of dandilion coffee was so bitter, i probably didnt cook it long enough. Thank you for posting this comment! =)

I drink dandelion coffee almost every day. Love the stuff. My temp and cook time is a little different from yours, but fairly similar result. Beautifully done, by the way! I love the angles.

Wow, you must make loads! How regularly do you make it? Do you do a massive batch once a year, or little batches as you go?
@karlsfoodforestgarden69633 жыл бұрын
@@davidbenjaminblower I make quite a bit. Generally I make it by the quart, which is about 3 large handfulls of roots with an average length of about 6" long. I dig up dandelions all the time and dehydrate the roots as I go. That way I can roast them at my convenience. I feel that my best results come when I dehydrate the root in a solar dehydrator for just one day, but my schedule doesn't always allow for that luxury. I'm always gardening, and my garden gives me loads of dandelions! 😉

Thank you for the informative video. I had an old bag of dried chopped dandelion roots which I completely forgot about. A few months ago I bought dandelion coffee, which we love, however it can be a bit expensive. Thanks to your video I decided to roast the dried dandelion I had. What I learnt: use the fan option on the oven at 160°C as anything higher sets off the smoke alarm 😂. Approximately 30 min sounds about right.

I am literally just testing it. It tastes great, nice bitter, but not too bitter, like some of the coffees. I always preferred the milder tasting but strong coffees. I used a desserspoon full to make my coffee in a French press for my usual mug. And I added raw organic milk in it, it is delicious

Beautiful video :) With spring here, and temperatures in western Lithuania getting nice and warm, me and my friend are planning to go out to forage for things we can consume. Onion grass, Sour clover, and even Dandelion. Excited to make this! Fun fact: Dandelion in Lithuanian translates to Kiaulpienė, which means "Pig Milk". Don't know why it's called that, but its there 😂 Thanks for the very helpful guide :)

Harvested some the other day, cleaned/dried it out, cut, roasted, grinded...did not smell like brownies lol and tasted honestly quite terrible? Not sure if my roots are just bad or what. But I've had dandelion root tea and love it, this did not taste anything remotely like coffee it was just bad LOL. Maybe some dandelions are more equal than others

Can you use cream and a sugar free sweetener in this? It looks amazing and I have TONS of Dandelions right now to dig up roots for. I've heard that it's wonderful for liver health and while I don't think I have a liver health issue right now, I do have an iron deficiency so I thought I'd try this out!

Thank you for the info. I want to try dandelion coffee for the first time in my life and actually bought chopped dried roots from shop. There was no instructions how to consume. Your video helped me a lot. One question, the rest of the powder form roots after making coffee, is there any use of it, like eating them or using for the garden etc,?
@davidbenjaminblower2 жыл бұрын
I've actually no idea what use you can make of the grounds. It's the sort of stuff I'd put on the compost pile, as with coffee grounds.

If it's caffeine you need you can find Cleaver's growing wild. They're from the coffee family and their seeds are used like coffee and they have caffeine. The seeds can be roasted and ground up then brewed. Free coffee 😀😀🎉❤

The roots do not have true essential oils in them, only leaves flowers and stems do. The making the fine powder form of dandelion [not root] will be a different color. The importance of doing only leaves, flowers and their stems [you can eat them in salads, if completely cleaned]; they have living essential oils [entities], that can enter the blood stream -- through the digestive tract. I use a special dry diffuser to extract them out of herb-powder form into the open room and into my lungs. This allows immediate entry into the blood stream via of the lungs. If asked, I will state where to look online for this information and more. signed, herbvested.
