That was so informative even today...one of the best instructional videos I have ever seen on the subject. Thank you so much.

Hi James, I have a question. All SMPTE projectors can playback at 24, 25, 30, 48, 50, 60 FPs? Or just some?
@CineTechGeek2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, SMPTE compatibility has no guarantee of supported FPS. 24fps is the only guarantee. But in general, any modern internal media block type solution should support SMPTE frame rates. I know of no tracking of this functionality. It really depends on hardware revision and firmware combination. But in general, any older external SDI based solution is very limited (by the 3G SDI interfaces), likely to only 24fps, some also support 25/30 but that's it. In terms of non 24fps, qualification should be sort for target cinemas but the support level is expected to be quite high. Or, all cinemas typically have a modern unit on hand. I know, was a bit of a mis-step from my perspective. But as time goes by and the older kit is retired over the next 2-3 years, you should expect support for smpte frame rates.

Sir, i have made a short film and just catching up with the exhibition system. As you higlighted SMPTE is the way to go from 2019. Reffering to the Cvid-19 crisis and looking at how things have gone on for the last few months should I make SMPTE or the older one.

Lookup your region on smptedcp.org and have a look how far down the smpte conversion they are. In general yes. Should be making smpte DCP and cinema should be accepting them still. But still good idea to check this in some regions.

Thank you for this information. This is all new to me, I just edited an independent feature and have never finalized a film before. Would you please help me, I have a final edit done in Premiere but need to make a DCP export.. What would be the best option for me? Making a ProRes 4444 and importing to Resolve or DCP-o-matic?
@amrt77553 жыл бұрын
Just Export ProRes and Make DCP with Resolve.

Thanks for your tutorial. So if I have understood this correctly the Kakadu jpeg2000 4k DCI in davinci results in better image quality than using than the DCP-o-matic for movie shot in 14-bit lossless cinemaDNG?
@CineTechGeek5 жыл бұрын
Yes. Kakadu has been continually developed and is what most of the others are based (copied) from. So in general yes. It is considered the best quality per byte due to its continues development. It's mainly used by medical and military customers. Tho open jpeg that dcp-o-matic uses has improved a lot in recent years. Again can imagine were that came from too.... Still openj2k is super slow compared.

Thank you very much! I have a question: We're distributing the movie in the theater, can Davinci Resolve create a DCP in the free version? Or I have to buy Studio 299$? Also, I used before Omatic but find some sound problem in the theater last year!
@CineTechGeek4 жыл бұрын
You need resolve studio to make a DCP. There is no reason DCP O Matic wouldn't make a DCP.with good sound. Look at your production workflow. What was the problem? Are you are the frame rate of the DCP matched that of the audio. A common mistake.

Hi,To make a DCP is 5.1 surround mix mandatory.
@CineTechGeek4 жыл бұрын
No. 2 channel works fine.. however I would strongly advise a good 2 to 5 channel conversion is used if going to cinema as everything else is typically 5.1 so it will not sound out of place compared to everything else.. I will do a video on this soon..

for cinema which color space & color scienc should Grade
@SLfilmBerlin4 жыл бұрын
you should grade in what you can display. in most cases it's rec709 gamma 2.2 - cinema will look the same if mastered correctly. don't try to "upgrade", just do it the safe way and use what your camera recorded and your monitor/system displays.
