If you use linear potentiometers and ribbons of metal which will behave like tendons along your fingers, you can substitute the spring loaded axial potentiometers and cable, whilst make the glove much slimmer. You will also have to create some anchors/rails for the ribbon along your fingers, to keep it flat against your hand.
@LastJoris3 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. And the main goal of this is to keep it cheap. Linear potentiometers aren't expensive either. Might try to do this myself.
@joshfudge71963 жыл бұрын
@@LastJoris i would imagine you would have to make a housing similar to what he made, or figure out a way to keep the glove from stretching and pulling together when you open and close your hands. Or if you can find a slightly sturdier glove that still allows your skin to breath, that would be ideal. *Maybe stitching an elastic velcro strap to the wrist of the gloves to keep them in place would solve the issue too (make sure you stretch both the strap and the wrist of the glove out a bit while you sew it down so it keeps its elasticity). Would love to see it if you do end up making it. If you're savvy with an Arduino, you could even go as far as giving the gloves bluetooth capability.
@joshfudge71963 жыл бұрын
@@LastJoris and by this point you might as well throw in a Li-po battery and make it completely wireless lol. i have one on a project that happens to use a glove as well, and i made snug housing out of some sheet metal just in case it decides to pop, and i used JB-Weld to close the seam of the housing & hot glued the assembly to the glove.

@World_Theory3 жыл бұрын
Dude. I bet there would be a huge market for already printed, assembled, and flashed versions of these. Even if people are doing all that my hand. *Even in this un-polished state.* I do think some casing needs to be designed for the electronics and mechanics on the back of the hand though. And the glove needs to be made such that it can be partially disassembled easily for washing, to maintain hygiene. If an exoskeletal glove design is used, it also needs to be made adjustable for different sizes of hands and fingers lengths, as well as finger flex angles. Because everyone's hands are anywhere between subtly different to very different. It would also be a good idea to make sure the gloves can be worn for long periods of time without discomfort. Although I suspect that would become a known issue as soon as people start wearing them, and then complain about any problems they might have. Something else that might be useful for these, is a rubberized grip on the palm and finger gripping surfaces, on the outside of the gloves. Because people often need to pick real objects up while in VR, and hard plastic is suboptimal for gripping things.

The thing is that while the Nano is powerful, it isn't read inputs from 5 potentiometers and control 5 motors with enough torque to move fingers powerful. The 5v lines can only handle like 40ma, so it would have to have an external power source, probably a battery, and then probably some mosfets to control the motors with that. So it'll probably be pretty bulky
@lucas_e30943 жыл бұрын
Crazy idea but hear me out, whe could use prostetic technology, they can read out your muscel constractions to move the prostetic hand and for vr you just need to change the prostetic hand do a litle device that sends it to the computer, so you have hand tracking whit just a litle device on your arm
