Part 1 here: • Making Doc Holliday's ...
The second of a two-part episode. My take on the gun leather props worn by actor Val Kilmer (as gunslinger Doc Holliday) in 1993's "Tombstone". A truly great western film. This is called the "Huckleberry Rig" in some circles. The first is the cross draw holster and cartridge belt used in the epic showdown between Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo.
Stamps used on the holster:
Craftool D617, 701009, C431, P206, 347

You Sir do incredible work! Watching your videos is interesting, intriguing, calming, relaxing, entertaining and nostalgic. My family actually had a leatherworks establishment than operated during the height of the Old West era; all it took to kill it was the Great Depression. I hope to someday, perhaps in retirement, scrape up some money to build myself a small shop and in some small way resurrect it. In the meantime however I will more than likely be contacting you for a holster or two or three or five for my open carry. Thank you for sharing yout incredible talent and beautifully representing our culture and history.

Another very cool video. I never get tired of watching, your craftsmanship is awesome and I would very much like to see your version/improvement to this style (no front strap). I am a big single action fan and have a few custom belt holsters for my pistols but I don't have a shoulder rig.

You are absolutely right about the front/upper attachment being relocated on the movie rig; pics show an unused slot, just like your finished rig.

Just thinking out loud here, but a holster in that style of a 6" barrel 1911 would be a great piece of kit for those of us who cannot draw from a conventional shoulder holster, I like how it brings the gun further forward.

@edwarnock9884
@edwarnock9884 Жыл бұрын
I don't care for the strap across the front either. I had an old uncle mike's nylon shoulder holster that never fit me well. The nylon strap always slipped the plastic adjustment buckle and the whole rig would start flopping around. I dug through my tack until I found a leather strap which I fit across the front to try to stabilize it better while a horseback. (Really did not help all that much.) While riding one day after my new adaptation, my horse threw a shoe so I stopped to remove the loose right rear shoe. The horse tried to pull the foot away and then shoved it under the strap, loose shoe and all, clinched nails included. I was then caught and loosely attached to the flailing foot until the strap broke, which I was grateful for, this resulted in a ruined shirt, some slight bruising, a few deep scratches along with a puncture in my belly was all it cost me. Ropes, straps and loose-fitting belts can be an added danger when working with livestock.

This is an "old west" style of shoulder holster. I've seen pictures of a similar design in a reference book. I used to have one years ago that had two 'yolks' over each shoulder and connected high across the shoulders in back. Very comfortable. But kinda necessitates having layered clothing to conceal. And were I live it's usually too hot for that.
@edwarnock9884
@edwarnock9884 Жыл бұрын
@@RoadAgentLeather Certainly know about hot weather here. After my mishap I remove any belts/holsters, including coats, vest or any other items that might foul when dealing with horse's feet in particular. Even the best of them can suddenly do something out of the norm.
