I think a great starting point is to find out how electronics intersect with a person's other interests. I was introduced to electronics as a hobby in the 1970s, but as a musician, my interest was rekindled in the Noughties when the Epiphone Valve Junior drew me to the online culture of building and modding guitar amps and building your own distortion pedals. (You might be amazed by how simple some of the more iconic effects are. Incidentally, there's a common-as-dirt microphone preamp circuit that has both emitter bias and collector feedback bias; I'd love to see a decent analysis of this circuit, and the search engines aren't helping me find any. I'm sure Zach has seen it with a bog standard NPN transistor, 1K emitter bias, 10K collector load, and 100K feedback; almost always biases high.)
