I hear how you vocalize your ideas so clearly, like drum patterns or solo riffs, and wonder if Melodyne could help convert them to MIDI in a faster way. Maybe Melodyne would be a good topic for a future lesson! Loved the groove on this upbeat funky jazz batshit crazy thang.

Thanks Don! I've experimented with Melodyne in ways like this before actually. I find it fastest to just work it out by hand/ear, and I get the added benefit of improving my transcription skills. Melodyne could be good for a future video though!

@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi Жыл бұрын
It's all about experience, not knowledge/information (though those don't hurt either...). The reason it may seem intuitive is I've been making music on a computer for 19 nears at this point, and much of that time has been spent trying ridiculous stuff, and playing in a wide range of genres. Also, much of that time it didn't sound too good... But, that does lead to some degree of familiarity!

Metheny to Bach to EDM that's quite a range. I am amazed at how you meld between styles effortlessly. QUESTION: I've seen you using the ChordWatch app. Is it possible to get the keyboard animation to work when you are playing back from a studio one track? Or does it only work with real time input on a keyboard. I'm trying to do a video screen capture after the midi track is complete. THX Max, Keep 'em coming.

Stupid question here (while I'm conscious about its stupidity, I can't find a smart way to put it). How do I go from making decent repetitive electronic music to this (the back belt level and this genre)? My musical theory is basic and don't play any instrument. What do I have to focus on? Music theory? Do I must start taking piano lessons? Thank you in advance. :)
@maxkonyi
@maxkonyi Жыл бұрын
Good question! The path will be different for everyone and depends heavily on your ear. If you're able to hear this kind of music in your mind clearly and work out the notes by trial and error, you can begin right now and learn as you go. That was not the case for me, but I know some people who took that route. For me, a mix of fairly deep music theory with decent instrument ability (and a lot of in-depth listening to similar music) was required. Ear training is also very helpful and cuts down on the time spent searching in the dark. I would recommend getting familliar with the piano for sure, as well as the basics of music theory. From there, it will become obvious where you need to focus as you try to make certain styles and run into obstacles. Have you seen my Udemy courses? They might be of interest to you...
