Here is a super simple and fast guide to Unidentified Gear aimed at helping newer players that might be confused with the system.

This is how I do it. I keep a single blue, green, and yellow UID in my invisible bag. Then as I pick them up while adventuring they are automatically added to the stack. Every so often I use alt-drag to split off stacks large enough to fill my normal bag space, consume all to open, then right click on the copper salvage tool and salvage green or lower, or right click and salvage yellow on my silver salvage tool. Of course when I split stacks I always leave a single UID of each type in the invisible bag to keep the "stack seed".

@@Nymaz I just let them pile up in my shared inv slots, right click the stacks and click "open all" and press "I" two times to close and reopen my inventory when my free slots are almost full. That cancels the opening and I can salvage what I already opened.

That's what I do! ^_^ I definitely recommend at least 1, if not 2 invisible bags for holding items you don't want to show up in the sell window. They also really help with the divide-the-stack method for opening, so you don't fill up your bags instantly before you can even salvage.

Tips: you can buy salvage kits for karma in dragonfall. Use shared slot to open and salvage items: Put unid gears in share slots -> open some of them -> salvage all -> open all of them (the automatic salvage will stop when bag full) -> deposit material for bag space -> salvage all -> open all -> deposit, and so on.

Tips for salvage kits: * You can buy them with karma at some merchants (check the wiki). That saves you quite a bit in the long run, especially with master kits. * You can get everything you need to craft mystic salvage kits with karma and from login rewards/achievement chests. * Put infinite/mystic salvage kits in shared inventory slots, and all of your characters can access them.

They are 20 times more expensive than 10 yellow salvage kits as the stones are obtained via gems normally which leads to a theoretical crafting price of over 30 gold for 1 mystic salvage kit!!! 10 rare salvage kits cost arround 1.5 gold in comparisson. Even if you would use the stones as replacement for exotic weapons to gamble for a precursor they would be worth arround 3 gold instead doubling the worth of a mystic salvage kit. (worth is equal to 10 yellow salage kits )

Look at the stats on the salvage kits. They have differing rates for returning better materials and upgrades. Blues won't have runes and greens will. I use the copper fed on blue, silver fed on green and the rune crafter on rares. Right clicking on the salvage kits allows bulk salvaging by type as well. The Mystic Salvage kit (250 uses - get at the Mystic Toilet) is another good option.

Beware that the "blue never has upgrades, green always" only applies to unIDs. Pre-identified blues may contain upgrades, while pre-identified greens can come without upgrades. For the best profit, use your Runecrafter on every blue and green that has an upgrade, copper fed for the ones without upgrades in them. Silver fed or Mystic Kit for yellows, as the slighly higher change of getting ectos offsets the slightly lower chance to get charms, especially since some yellow gear can stilll come without upgrades, in which case you're "wasting" the 100% upgrade salvage chance of the Runecrafters.

I salvage primarily to get Globs of Ectoplasm. As such, that’s my point of reference when comparing prices and keeping tabs on costs. I previously used only Mystic Salvage Kits (made only from the free Mystic Forge Stones from the daily login) but a short while ago got a Silver-Fed Salvage-o-matic. My own practice is to ID then salvage only Rares/Yellows. If a rare greatsword comes out, I usually sell that as they usually have a price much higher than most rares, unID’d rares, and globs on the TP. From experience, (identified) rares usually sell for much lower than a glob, so it makes sense to smash them to get globs. Any other mats are a bonus. I usually just sell my unID’d fine/blue and masterwork/green gear. UnID’d, they usually have a higher price than most ID’d gear. Another reason is because I only have the Silver-Fed and Mystic Salvage Kits- the cost to salvage (60 copper) is greater than majority of what T5 mats usually sell for, so salvaging them for mats is a bust for me. If you had a a Copper-Fed, that should be fine (3 copper) but my interest is really in Globs of Ectoplasm. By not bothering with blues and greens, I spend less time and effort on just sorting and managing inventory while reasonably making money or getting mats I really want. The time and effort part is really important- some of us have only limited time and energy to spare on this game, as wonderful as it is. The most important thing here, IMHO, is to keep up your knowledge of the current in-game economy. You don’t need to memorize the exact price of mats on the TP, but having a general awareness of where they are is really handy. I said that time and energy in playing are limited resources, but do check on mat prices every so often. That’ll save you a lot from making bad deals and doing stupid things to your own detriment.

ADDITIONAL INFO: UnID'd blues sell for usually more than 1 silver, but if you identify it, its price drops usually to less than 80 copper. Even if you had a Copper Salvage-O-Matic with salvage cost of 3 copper, you reduce what you earn by 3 copper. If you salvage it, you'll only be lucky if you get a T6 mat (orichalcum ore, ancient wood, gossamer scrap, or hardened leather)- most likely, you'll get a T5 mat which puts your earnings even lower (roughly 20 c for silk, 40 c for mithril, 70 c for elder, 60 for thick leather). Maybe you'll get a lucent mote too and some luck, but at best you're just breaking even. But if you just sell the UnID'd blue gear, that's over a silver in earnings without hassle. It's a similar story for greens. UnID'd greens sell for over 2 silver. Smash them with a salvage kit and your earnings/return drop down to similar to a Blue item. So I just sell my unID'd blues and greens to the TP. I don't bother with them, I don't gamble. It's a safe practice with good returns.

I bought the 3 kits when they were on sale about 2 weeks ago and since then i've only been buying blue unidentified gear on the TP and have made about 300 gold from selling the mats from them, I started with only about 50 gold. When buying thousands at a time you'll easily get enough globs from the occasional rare gear drop from the blues that you make more than enough money back. As well as the expensive charms and symbols from the greens using the runecrafters. I've been selling the materials for a bit more than you, 24c silk, 50c mithril, 80c elder wood, actually only 50-52 on the leather, and 13c for the motes, and the globs i've been setting at 21s 50c and waiting a few days for them to sell. Usually every batch of blues i buy, i find roughly 5-8 expensive exotics that sell for 2-4 gold. Also went from 90% magic find to now almost the max of 300% with all the luck. But again if you don't own all 3 infinite salvage kits it's probably not as profitable, but buying all 3 kits was the best decision i've made

With how prices on symbols and charms have gone up, I kind of wonder if it isn't always better to use runecrafter on any gear with upgrades. It's only 5% lower on the salvage chances, the ectos, while increasing the rate of getting charms and symbols. Especially if you want to make legendary runes and sigils. Those are so very convenient with the legendary armory.

Some Unid basics for the curious: 1. As a rule of thumb salvage blues with the copperfed, greens with runecrafters and yellows with silverfed. 2. You can move stacks of unids into the shared inventory slots to avoid them being affected by "salvage all". 3. If you just want to maximise gold, remember to check if a) any items can be refined for increased profit (e.g. sometimes its better to craft ingots and then sell) and b) if you can actually gain gold by salvaging your ectos for dust While the wiki is nice to know info, the rates are not accurate in most cases. Also, the droprates for item rarity aren't always what matetrs, the rates of what mats you end up with are key for the value of the unid. With the right approach every type including blue ones are profitable to open, but what that approach is is the info people will not be likely to just put out there :D Thanks for listening to my ted talk.

That's solid advice if you already have those Salvage-o-Matics from the gem shop, which newer players quite possibly don't. If you choose to buy them based on this video, you might want to consider their price against your projected profit from salvaging, especially if you buy the Salvage-o-Matics by converting in-game gold. That's a hefty upfront investment that might just not return a profit for a very long time or even at all before you get bored of playing the game, depending on your playstyle.

I say identify the gear for the chance of rare gear, which you salvage, and then vendor the rest. You are fooling yourself, if you think otherwise.

I think the first 6 months they were introduced I was selling them on the tp. When I had come across somebody that looted a precursor from a unid green bag. I never sold another one. I have gotten 3 since. The chance at a precursor alone makes them worth opening.

This is a video about making PROFIT from unIDs, yet the copper-fed gets recommended for convinience, while the Runecrafters doesn't even get more than a mention by name. Runecrafters kit is best-in-slot for every gear item that has an upgrade in it (so every single green from unIDs and even some blue items from loot like fractals) and has NO vendor equivalent, unlike the other kits. For 75s salvage cost per stack greens, you regularly get several gold worth of charms back from that stack greens. If you want the most profitable kit, buy a Runecrafters Salvage-o-matic. Copper fed is a convinience that takes a very long time to even just pay off, even then netting you just fractions of copper with each use (5mil uses to break even iirc). Runecrafters pays off significantly faster if used properly and from then on makes you amounts of gold that absolutely dwarf what the other kits are capable of. From a "profit perspective" only buy the copper-fed if you already have infinite gathering tools and a Runecrafter, otherwise just use the open world vendors that conviniently stand at literally every other corner because you'd have to use them anyway to replace tools etc. And finally, completely missing the Mystic Salvage Kit, which has 250 uses and costs less to put together than 10 Master Salvage Kits (25 uses each).

Fine(blue) and masterwork(green) unidentified gear I sell them directly at trading post without consume or open them except for rare(yellow) identified gear. If you open/ use rare once and sell them at the trading post you get much more gold depending how many of them you have in your inventory. If any newbie like I was I started grinding a lot of items in events or boss fights and filled up my once then head back to trading post or nearby merchants. My advise would be rather than deposit all your material to make room, try go back to the trading post and get to nearby merchants and open both tabs and compare those item and which ones ☝🏻give you more profits then rest you deposit.. You put enough effort grinding them like I was you could easily make 20-30 gold a day

since you didnt mention: Copper fed (or equivalent 25 stack kit) on Blue and lower. Runecrafters (no equiv, use same as Blue if you dont have the runecrafters) on Greens Silverfed/mystic/Masters kit on Yellows Black lion kits on Exotics (in case you have spares, use same as for yellows if you do) dont EVER buy black lion kits, they are way too expensive for the gain of using them. keep one or two stacks for when you want to recover a Rune/Sigil from an exotic and use the extra ones on your trash exos

Also, a huge tip is to NEVER buy materials for the sell price, always use buy orders for big projects. IF its gonna take weeks to finish, there is no need to rush getting all the stuff while you farm.

Sorry if that was confusing, Just use a high quality salvage kit for rares "Silverfed salvage kit or Masters if you don't have the Silverfed" then you will have the best chance of getting Ecto's. The point I was trying to make is that you want the highest chance when salvaging so you don't loose gold, otherwise its a better idea to sell.

Thanks, I'm constantly making a mistake of salvaging straight up unidentified items. I really should stop doing that. That aside, I have my own strategy regarding that. I've played for some years with bigger pauses, so I know how prices changed. I also am in need of basic materials luck essences (cause I've got ~160% luck only) and lots and lots of ectoplasms. So blues seem to me the least profitable for selling and since I need materials I salvage them ( a while back they didn't sell for evena 1 silver). Greens come in good quantity and have a high price now so I sell them (price was 1s 90~c). And price for yellows is a lot less than it was, and since I need ectos, I salvage with no remorse, though I really should identify them for exotics (the price used to be 20-21 silver coins). As for exotics, since I don't play much I don't gather mach, grind and so on I'm leaving low price exotics to throw them into the Mystic Forge for a chance of precursor weapons. Tough luck, but it's still better than grinding, for which I have no time.

I'm torn on which infinite salvage kit to get. I'd like to make as much gold as possible. I have several full stacks of unidentified gear so I don't know if I should get the copper or silver fed or both. If you're wanting to make the most gold possible I would go for the Runecrafters kit. Use it to salvage green items and you will always get Runes and Sigils back in return. Then you can salvage the sigils. After that you can decide to get the copper feed or silver fed. Copper is great for a cheap salvage kit for Blue items, Silver is good for Rares.

Depends on where you're at in your Guild Wars2 experience. Early on, I definitely 'ate' all the luck I got from salvage, cuz gotta get that MF to not be at suck levels. You can also get the bit pieces from runes and sigils (lucent motes, charms and symbols -- all components for rune and sigil making that are $$$) from salvaging. Personally, I'm at a point where I want to horde as much of that as I can, so I can make legendary sigils/runes. (I've made one so far, which is what I wanted for the moment.)

Honestly from wha I understood the end game of salvaging is: - fill most inventory with open all on blue then green then yellow bags. - use unlimited upgrade extractor(very expensive and rotating gems item) on items with upgrades - use copper fed on blue and masterwork - use silver fed on rares and exotics If you take into account shared slots it is a 4-5K gem deal but it's braindead and it gets you close to max reward and it will be better than what you'd do with regular kits and black lion kits. Atm I use only copper and silver fed extractors and it is way more convenient than kits + it pays for itself at a point because slightly cheaper but also slightly better rewards). Magic find does affect the drop rate of each type of unidentified gear, it does not however affect the stuff you get when opening unidentified gear, for example if you have 500% magic find youll never pick up the basic white loot any more only rare or higher. Also raising magic find through buffs you can hit i think about 900% max magic find which would mean you can only pull masterwork or higher. Back in 2020 cellofrag did an explaination of how magicfind can be used to optimise gold farming since then the magic find cap has been raised to about 900%

TLDR of the bottom paragraph: unless you craft legendaries or in dire need of QoL gemstore items, you don't need gold Idk about other players, but when I was brand new, first goal after lvl 80 was to be full exotic, which is less than 10g, iirc. There is plenty of content to be done full exotic: all metas, living world, fractal start, strikes and even raids. (believe it or not, i've done raids before reaching t2 in fractal). I was in need of gold only when buying QoL gemstore items and started crafting leggies.

So far, I always came out worse when identifying and salvaging or selling yellow gear, compared to just sell the unidentified gear. Did 3 tests in the past 2 years, each with a stack full and took notes and apart from getting less money out of it, I wasted time as well. The gems you spend in a copper or more expensive salvage tool need to be considered too if you go that way. Either you bought gems for real money, or you farmed gold and traded. How many years will it take to get the 200 gold back? Wasted gems.

@@Dngrcrw No it isn't faster to sell. The fastest is to salvage all and click store materials, that way you get rid of all salvagebles and loose gear at the same time as unidentified gear. On the TP you have to sell every different type item stack individually, and the transactions aren't instantaneous. If you value time, salvage all and store materials is definitely the way to go about it.

The vid is giving lots of false informations be aware!!! First what salvage kit to use? for blue rarity do not use anything higher than blue salvage kits this is because of how those items are generated basically no runes and sigils on them! The higher chance of rare materials only access to orichalcum ore, ancient wood and pieces of gaze here. ectoplasm orbs can only be generated from items that have at least rare rarity (yellow) for green gear you should also use at least a green salvage kit however yellow salvage kits and above have a higher chance to also salvage the runes on those items while the green salvage kit has a 60% chance the rare salvage kits have a 80% chance to do so. But yellow salvage kits are way to expensive to use so what is the best solution? In fact it is the most OP pay 2 win item from the gemstore the rune salvage o mat which has a 100% chance to salvage runes and sigils on all items with a 20% chance of higher materials compared to 25% from rare salvage kits. There is no better way to salvage green items than to use the rune salvage o mat as the runes on those items can grant the materials you need to craft all sigils and runes worth at least 9 silver up to 1 gold with an average of 2 gold worth of those for salvaging a 250 stack of green unidentified gear on average. But open the unidentified gear first!!!!!! as all items from the unidentified gear will be considdered only green rarity if you do not open them first and while you stil get runes salvaged and the materials for those items you will not get the chance of yellow or even exotic gear drops. yellow rarity: despite the fact that ectoplasm orbs are not worth it right now there are only 2 ways you should salvage yellow rarity items with a yellow salvage kit or again the rune salvage o mat which has 2 benefits. It is cheaper than the yellow salvage kits and has the 100% rune salvage chance instead of the 80% rune salvage chance of the yellow salvage kits. The biggest difference are the 25% chance of higher materials over the 20% the rune salvage o mat has which leads to more ectoplasm orbs in total but on the cost of less rune and sigil materials which is why the rune salvage o mat stil wins even more so because of the low ectoplasm prices right now. Finally we have exotic gear and for exotic gear you need to know a few things. First exotic gear can have up to 3 ectoplasm orbs salvaged from it and there is just one way to get youre hands on the runes on them which mostly determine the majority of its value and also they have a small chance to give you the insignia or inscription that is needed to make the exotic item in the first place which is often more valueable than the exotic item itself. To get the best result you should use the black lion salvage kit for any exotic item that has a high valueable rune on it. If the rune is not valueable on the item I recommend a rare salvage kit over the rune salvage o mat because with a chance up to 3 ectoplasm orbs the 25% chance for higher material rarity outweights the chance for the single chance of a rune material drop even it is just 5% higher as the inscription or insignia drop is also considdered a higher material drop. Fun fact with 600 gold equal 2000 gems you will need to salvage arround 900K items with the rune salvage o mat to make up for its costs as all salvage o mat items have a slightly lower cost per use compared to the normal versions from an npc merchant. The rune salvage o mat however covers this gap even faster because of the additional 40% chance to salvage runes as well but don't get it wrong it is stil not a task you do fast. I have only salvaged 560K items in total since the Prestart of the game with over 6K hours of playtime and most of those in the last 2 years during excessive amounts of salvaging unidentified gear for item gamble reasons. (which leaded to 14 core precursor weapons in total by the way) Finally do not make mystic salvage kits!!!!!!!! The needed 3 mystic stones have a value of more than 30 gold in total which is 20 times higher than the costs for 10 rare salvage kits that would be qual in amounts of use alone + you actually need a 11th one to craft it. The stones are needed in different mystic forge recipies and even the use of them as a replacement for an exotic weapon in item gambling at the forge would be more valueable than using them for the kit!

I just did it and dont get it why should i do it. Out of 150 rare i got 141 ectos. Each rare sells at TP 18.83gx150 = 27.80g right now, each ecto sells for 19.48x141 = 27.46g a few more wood, silk and mith that i consider not worth much and discounting the investment on the salvage kits, I dont get the point of the video honestly. I dont even want to go comment on the greens and blue ones, i feel i came at a loss honestly.
